ooo! Psychedelic Pstones!  I was just starting to discover Top 40 radio in the fall of '67, which is probably why I like this period of the Stones stuff more than some people do.

"She's a Rainbow" sounded really good.  But BOS1 to the Monkees and "Pleasant Valley Sunday."  Try and imagine today's top-selling band singing on its new single, "Creature comfort goals / They only numb my soul."  Micky and Carole King were an underrated combo.

"Nobody But Me" is another one of those songs I used to hear all the time on Pittsburgh oldies radio, and rarely if ever since.  It's been at least five years since I've heard that at all.

Define "top selling"  ... because I can imagine Bono singing that line. And I can imagine all the many Pearl Jam/Creed clones singing it. And I can certainly imagine Coldplay singing it.

I'd define top-selling today as Eminem, 50 Cent, Usher, Lil Jon, and Mariah Carey.  (Bad call on my part to say "band" earlier.)  U2 and Coldplay would be not far behind, and I'd agree with you on them.

Indeed, hip-hop is all about creature comfort goals.

BOS "Bluebird". The Buffalo Springfield were all over the damn radio when I got my first FM radio for Xmas 1969.  What a door into a different world that opened up for me.

VHM S&D, "Soul Man". Whatever became of C Thomas Howell, anyway?

I'm currently reading Soulsville: The Story of STAX Records by Rob Bowman and I highly recommend it.
