OK, who is it that the lead singer of Alabama Shakes sounds like? It's right on the tip of my tongue but I can't quite nail it. In any case, I'm not especially impressed by them. Black Crowes version 2.0 -- meh.

I like "Hold On."  I think it's pretty slick.

But I never expected the lead singer to look like:

Posted this on FB, but earlier on London's Jazz-FM I heard a track from Joss Stone's new CD -- more (relatively) obscure soul covers. She does a fine version of the Chi-Lite's always-relevant "(For God's sake) Give More Power to the People"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKpCM5mRBiY

as well as their "Stoned Outta My Mind" (one of my all-time faves) and also: The Stones' "I Got the Blues" from Sticky Fingers; a great old Honey Cone song called "While You're Out Lookin' For Sugar (Somebody's Gonna Steal Your Honey)"; and Sylvia's "Pillow talk" which strikes me as too breathy/sexy for Ms. Stone -- but I'd love to hear Megan (Mrs Don Draper) try that one. Yowsah!

Has anyone heard the relatively new live Tedeschi/Trucks 2CD set?  So far what I've heard is real good.  I also just discovered that Oteil Burbridge and his brother Kofi are in the band.  It seems like quite a powerhouse group.

just got a copy of this from the"free table" at work, dig it!  (Not really new -- it's from 1971 -- but only just released.)

http://lightintheattic.net/releases/755-a-fire-somewhere

"Ray Stinnett, original guitarist in Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs (“Wooly Bully”), finds himself drawn to the scene in Haight Ashbury and spends the ‘Summer of Love’ at the Morning Star Ranch in Northern California. In keeping with the zeitgeist of the times, he tunes in and drops out. Fast forward to ‘71 and Ray is back in Memphis recording his masterpiece for A&M at the legendary Fame and Ardent Studios with assistance from Booker T. and co-mixer/ engineer Richard Rosebrough (Chris Bell, Big Star). A&M shelves the album, and now, 41 years later, the record is finally available for the first time."

Sounds very cool--I will check it out this afternoon.
Let's get right to it.

New track from Tedeschi Trucks upcoming album (free download):

This is the best band I've heard in years.  For those of you that like live music, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
