The Rant & Vent about the Right Wing thread
« on: August 05, 2005, 09:11:41 AM »
I think we need a thread like this in addition to the thread for Geoff's blog.

To start it off, today we have not one but two black eye's for the Right.

Robert Novak gets a long-overdue vacation!

What's not clear to me about Novak's walkoff: Was he actually reacting against the timbre of that bit of conversation, or was that a pre-emptive dodge of Plame Wilson questions?  I think Bobbie Boy (surely W has a pet name for him, and surely it's something that insipid) has much to answer for either way, but I'm eager to hear from someone who actually watched that episode.

Gawd I wish I was taping the Daily Show last night!  They actually played the unedited version of the CNN feed, where Novak actually says "bullshit" not once, but twice!  The second time in split screen where Jon Stewart reacts in mock shock to what he's just heard.  Hopefully someone will find a clip somewhere of the incident, unedited.

They usually censor that kind of thing on the repeat, since it's in primetime.  I will be camping anyway, but I guess I'd suggest watching it for others.  It's right at the top of the show, so you don't have to wait too long.  But there was a hilarious Steven Colbert piece where he interviews the original Cooter guy, and some others about our favorite new movie, the DOH.

I'll be interested to see if they censor it -- the first broadcast isn't live anyway, it's taped at around 6 in the evening NY time. I didn't know Com Central differentiated between 11pm and 8pm.

It's not that I thought the show was live, it's that they intentionally censor differently for the rebroadcast than for the first 11:00 PM broadcast.  I remember when they had the author of "On Bullshit" as the guest. Jon made a comment that if we were watching the rebroadcast, there would be a lot of bleeping.  They said 'bullshit' many, many times that night.

I was watching last night too.  Hilarious show.  The Dukes of Hazard piece had me rolling on the floor...

Do you guys know who Dr. James C. Dobson is?  He is the founder of Focus on the Family, & the reason that none of us would probably ever want to be caught dead in Colorado Springs (an otherwise gorgeous town I visited before his ascendancy, home of the Garden of the Gods rock-climbing park & the Olympic training center).

For some reason he was ganted an 11th hour interview with serial killer Ted Bundy, who declared that it wasn't his own fault that he became a serial killer, it was because of...(wait for it)...

...pornography!

Dobson not only took Bundy at his word, he ate it up!   Focus on the Family markets the video of the interview on their website.  I am NOT making this up.

Anyone got any naked pictures of Bundy to trade?

You mean a conservative Christian isn't valuing A Culture Of Life over all?

That he still has a national pulpit after all he's said over these recent years is nothing short of dispiriting and dismaying, and I have to hold Christians accountable for keeping him visible.  The more reasonable Christian community needs to rise up and say, "Pat, you have got to go now.  WE ARE NOT WITH YOU."
