Yesterday DC and Renee played a new Counting Crows song that is apparently from an upcoming CC covers album.  :-X  "Untitled (Love Song)" originally by the Romany Rye.  It was one of the worst songs I've ever heard...and I had to call up the station and notify them of that.  They both sounded disappointed.

DC: Oh.  Do you like their other stuff?
Renee: Aww, well, I didn't think it was that bad...

I couldn't help myself.  I just had to look at the rest of the songs on their covers album titled: Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation).  Gram Parsons?  Big Star?  Amie??  ARRRRRGH!

"Untitled (Love Song)" by Romany Pye
"Start Again" by Teenage Fanclub
"Hospital" by Coby Brown
"Mercy" by Tender Mercies
"Meet on the Ledge" by Fairport Convention
"Like Teenage Gravity" by Kasey Anderson & The Honkies
"Amie" by Pure Prairie League
"Coming Around" by Travis
"Ooh La La" by The Faces
"All My Failures" by Dawes
"Return of the Grevious Angel" by Gram Parsons
"Four White Stallions" by Tender Mercies
"Jumping Jesus" by Sordid Humor
"You Ain't Going Nowhere" by Bob Dylan
"The Ballad of El Goodo" by Big Star

Oy. There are some pretty good songs on there (Fanclub, Faces, Dylan, that would probably be ruined for life if I heard Sideshow Bob's mangled interpretation of them. If there is any kind of supreme being, please oh please keep this album out of my consciousness.
Let's get right to it.

Listening to Peter Young's podcast on London's Jazz-FM; not only did he play new Swingout Sister (HAAAY!) but his "pick hit of the week" is by -- of all people -- onetime Acoustic Sunrise fave Jeb Loy Nichols,  which answered the question "whatever happened to him?"

How many of us listen to the Sunday Night show "Lost And Found"? Not 'new music' per se, but at least a little different. The host kinda needs to get over himself, though.

Heard a little last night.  Not too bad, but yes, no lack of self-esteem in that guy!

It's a good program to fall asleep to (and I mean that in a good way.)

I don't think the host (who I found out is 27 :o ) comes across as arrogant...just overly passionate.

Holy crap! This is from the new Chuck Prophet album -- the song's about Harvey Milk and the "White Night" riots.  I think we can expect to hear this in AL's annual Pride Set this coming June.

Definitely hear the BTO (thank you, cowbell) but also a bit of Def Leppard. And not just because the drum parts could be played by a guy with one arm.

The beginning has that 'clear out the cockroaches' guitar tone guaranteed to repel any old folk.  It's similar to a tone I use in class (except the opposite effect) where I play a 17,000Hz tone that I can't hear, but drives the students nuts.  It's a way to get their attention!

new/old -- NTM, anyway: last nite Rockin' Jim on KPOO unearthed the 5th Dimension's version of "Hurting Each Other" (pre-Carpenters) and while I couldn't find that on YouTube, I did find a Ruby & the Romantics version from the '60s...

Cover version of the Week: Rumer (she's the next Adele!) doing a cover of "Welcome Back" -- apprently she's a big John Sebastian fan. Seriously.

The Autumn King on KPOO last nite was featuring The Pearl Sessions, that new Janis re-package. It was a nice reminder that there are a lot of wonderful tracks on that LP besides "Me & 'trina McGee" that never get played on the radio.
