Mon 3/14/11: 1981

AAAAACK! Instant WOS Starship. I'd be happy if they NEVER find they way back.

Y&S: "Under Pressure" and "Edge of 17" -- 2 queens and a goat!
Working on  royal flush, (you better) you bet.

Y&S to the nth power here: AC/DC and Greg Kihn. it's Kihn-tagious!

Time to play B-sides. No, seriously, this set is so awful I'm cranking up my turntable.

Jefferson Starship - Find Your Way Back
Tom Petty - The Waiting
Queen/Bowie - Under Pressure
Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen
Who - You Better You Bet
Billy Squier - In the Dark
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds
Greg Kihn - The Breakup Song
Pretenders - Message of Love
Blue Oyster Cult - Burning For You

Wed 3/16/11: 1984

aaack -- 2nd of 3 '80s sets from Bob this week, and 2nd '84 set of the morning. Broooce is in his glory; Percy's in the sea.

VHM the cheezy goodness of early Bon Jovi, "Runaway".

Uh-Oh: summersummersummer -- it turns Ric Ocasek upside down. Nobody told me there'd be snoozefests like this, John.

Henley's down at the grill; Hagar the Horrible can't drive 55. WOS. But his future bandmates are staying after school -- VHM VH.

BOS Foreigner and that fab choir. Best of a bad lot today.

VHM Mr Byrne's oversized suit.

nothing green here either. Tho' a snifter of "Brandy" is appropriate, I guess.

Sorry, Doobs -- I'll always prefer the Byrds' orig of "Jesus Is Just Alright". More hippie, less Fundie.

I ain't wastin' time in BOSing the ABB.

Damn, Bob's playing late-'72 songs that I identify with '73. Doobs, Dr Hook, Steely Dan.

BOS2 Keef & da Stones, making us "Happy". VHM Tull, "Thick as a Brick".

Actually, America, it *ain't* foggy outside. BOS3 "Sandman", despite some seriously odd lyrical choices. "a hurricane that's abandoned"? WTF?

Looking Glass - Brandy
Moody Blues - I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)
Doobie Brothers - Jesus is Just Alright
Billy Preston - Outta Space
Allman Brothers Band - Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show - Cover of Rolling Stone
Steely Dan - Do It Again
Rolling Stones - Happy
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
America - Sandman

Why do I fear that Heart's "Even It Up" is the best we're gonna get, fine TOTHK tho' it is?

Well, OK, "Driven to (the bitter Sting of) Tears" ain't bad. But "Turning 'Trina-ese" is unnecessary.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! LoverSagaBoy, "Turn Me On The Loose". WOS-in-perpetuity.

Mr Seger takes some Iggles down to "Fire Lake" to wear "gypsy leather". Er, WHA??

uber-BOS "Love Stinks", making a non-Valentines appearance. Oh, the "Games" APP plays.

"I Will Follow" U2... until they start writing crappy musicals about Spiderman.

Bob with his 2nd "cheat" of the week, playing the live version of "Lola". Er... why?

Heart - Even it Up
Police - Driven To Tears
Vapors - Turning Japanese
Loverboy - Turn Me Loose
Bob Seger - Fire Lake
J. Geils Band - Love Stinks
Alan Parsons Project - Games People Play
Billy Joel - Sometimes a Fantasy
U2 - I Will Follow
Kinks - Lola (live)

Notable FRA: "Sometimes a Fantasy," seemingly always left off BJ's GH comps even though it charted.  I don't like it, for the same reasons I deeply dislike Steel Breeze's "You Don't Want Me Anymore."
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

I don't dispute your dislike for Stale Cheese's YDWMA, but I'm curious what those reasons are. I have my own reasons, mostly having to do with their being from Sacramento at the time I was in college there. Serious oversaturation of an otherwise crappy song.
Let's get right to it.

The riff, lyrics, and delivery have a staccato simplicity that rubs my brain the wrong way.
