The Drive, week of 2/28/11
« on: February 28, 2011, 07:53:44 AM »
Mon 2/28/11: 1973

one of my favorite years. Do us proud, Bob.

10@10 jus' like ah pitchered it! Stevie's in the city, where the walls ain't pretty. But Percy & Co find a reason to dance. And Steve M is a space gangster pompatus something-or-other. Must be all that midnite toking.

BOS BBs, "Sail On Sailor" -- a sledgehammery flashback to senior year of high school. Dr John gets out his glitter.

GFR tear up a hotel; Bob continues his annoying tradition of playing Orleans' "Dance With Me" in '73.

"Dey gotta lotta nice girls-ah!" ZZT go to La Grange. VHM. Still, ELP turn me on. VHM.

OMGWTFLOL: uber-BOS2 "Basketball Jones"! Ah got more moves than Ex-Lax! Cheerleaders! Help me out!

Stevie Wonder   Livin' For the City   10.2%
Led Zeppelin   Dancing Days   11.2%
Steve Miller   The Joker   6.7%
Beach Boys   Sail on Sailor   9.1%
Dr. John   Right Place Wrong Time   3.2%
Grand Funk   We're An American Band   11.0%
Orleans   Dance With Me   8.8%
ZZ Top   LaGrange   6.7%
Emerson, Lake & Palmer   Still You Turn Me On   20.9%
Cheech & Chong   Basketball Jones

Wed 3/2/11: 1970

Surely it won't be as good as AL's later on, but 1970 can't be bad.

instant BOS George, "What Is Life?". I always mondegreened "If I give my love now to everyone like you" as "...every whore like you..."  And speaking of whores: "Layla" makes its three billionth radio appearance.

more non-surprises: Rare Earth & CCR. VHM Santana, "Samba Pa Ti".

Blood in the streets in the town of Chicago! BOS2 "Peace Frog"

EJ smokes some more moss. Then he shouldn't be cross! Not as cross as Mr Cummings is with that 'murrican bitch.

"I don't need your crappy healthcare!
I don't need your corporate welfare!"

BOS3 the Cat Man, even tho' I've heard "Wild World" a million times.

BOS4 sabbath, "Paranoid". DUUUUUUDE!

Fri 3/4/11: 1983

stuck in the '80s this morning. Bracing myself for AOR crapola here.

And lo, the Goat says "Sta-a-a-a-nd B-a-a-a-a-ck!"

WOS1.

Dear lord: "Mr Roboto". one of the uber-WOSes of all "modrin" times.

AAAACK! make it STOP!!  WOS3 Night Ranger, "Don't Tell Me You Love Me"

VHM Bowie, if only because *he* pronounces "Modern" correctly.

Oh, now I see: Bob's going for a "Worst 1983 Set EVAH" award. WOS4 Journey, "Send Her My Love".

Thank gawd for U2 and JCM, well-worn but sounding better than they should by virture of the dreck that preceded them.

WOS5 Yes, "Changes" tho' Bob gets points for it not being "Leave It" or "OOALH".

Tender is the Night; painful is this set.  And we close with uber-Trina "Our House".  Yeesh and sheesh.

Stevie Nicks - Stand Back
Styx - Mr. Roboto
Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me
David Bowie - Modern Love
Journey - Send Her My Love
U2 - New Year's Day
John Cougar Mellencamp - Authority Song
Yes - Changes
Jackson Browne - Tender is the Night
Madness - Our House
