LNG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the week of 1/24/11

On tonite's "Grinders Grooveyard" on KPOO, Rockin' Jim will be doing part 1 of a 2-part Motown show -- mostly rare grooves and obscurities, not the obvious hits. Should be stellar.

Judge spins "Georgie Porgie", the Cheryl Lynn/Toto collab that nearly ruined the latter's rock cred even as it gave the former a hit.

TANC: now it's Marvin's "Funky Space Reincarnation", currently a Dior commercial, followed by Miss Ross putting out the welcome mat -- it's her house and she lives here.

Thank GAWD there's JJ on Tuesday as an alternative to the Drive's all-Southern Rock 10@10 today.  Gee, ya think they'll play some Skynyrd?

OMG: Ms Acklin's "Am I the Same Girl" (aka "Soulful Strut" with lyrics) and the orig "Workin' on a Groovy Thing" by Patti Drew!

the orig "Workin' on a Groovy Thing" by Patti Drew!

and several hours later, here's the obscure Ms Drew again on Radio de Sebb, covering "Hard to Handle" -- nicely done, and NTM.

Radio de Sebb unearths yet another version of Gaz fave  "Love Music", this time by Lloyd Price.

interesting thread I found about the various covers of the tune:

Radio de Sebb plays Carl Bean's faboo "I Was Born This Way"

Followed by Winwood's competent-but-unnecessary cover of "Why can't We Live Together"

Punched up The Boardwalk and they're doing their Sun afternoon "Beach Music Top 40" -- astounding to me that there are enough *current* songs that are considered beach music to make a chart of this kind.  This is really a world unto itself -- You've probably never heard any of these songs anywhere else. And here at #5 is something from Lulu (!) from her current LP (!!), a song called "There's Got To Be a Way". I didn't even know she was still making records.
