17 Dec 2010: it's... "Festivus Friday"
« on: December 14, 2010, 09:14:30 AM »
The 1st Annual, sez AL.  I'm tempted to ask for Shirley Q Liquor's "12 days of Kwanzaa" but I guess that's too un-PC.

So... Festivus... does this mean Holiday-type songs that aren't Christmas-related?  Brain fried right now.

It's (per a post she just put up on FB) more non-traditional holiday tunes, winter tunes, etc.  I had just sent her my list  and she wrote back to say that several were perfect; "Hazy Shade" was on tap for tomorrow's '66 set but she may save it for Fri.

Sometimes in Winter (Blood Sweat & Tears)
Hazy Shade of Winter (S&G or Bangles)
Winterwood (Don McLean)
Wintertime (Steve Miller)
Wintertime Love (Doors)
Winter (Stones)
If We make it Thru December (Merle Haggard)
Christians & Pagans (Dar Williams)

If you've heard one "swingin' " retro-big-band Xmas pastiche, you've heard 'em all.  Big Bad Bosstone Voodoo Setzer Orch, or something.

WOS Brian Setzer.  His whole revival felt like a shtick-up to me.

A&P may not be providing them, or anyone else, the world's smallest turkeys for long: they filed for bankruptcy this week.

No big reason; I just think it's a pedestrian song, and I'm tired of it.

The Hawaiian Xmas song is less overplayed, but this version had all the life sucked out of it.  Where's Bette Midler when you need her?
