1.) bower
3.) spanner
4.) strewn

Hint: the other three are all R'n'R HoF bands with very prominent guitarists.

Furhter hint: two of the above-mentioned three guitarists were in even in a recent movie together.

last chance

What's the question?

find each of those vocabulary words in a well-known song.

VHM Cake -- they're fun, but a tad overrated. Always seems to me they're trying too hard to be "different".

Ahh, the hint tells me the guitarists, but not the songs...

I bet the group for "bower" also used the word "hedgerow", eh?

You there, Mark?  Since it's late, I'll say the groups are Led Zeppelin and the White StripesU2, but I don't know what the songs are.

ETA: OK, I know what the songs are now.  I never would have gotten the LZ song, but I wasn't remembering that the Edge was in "It Might Get Loud" until I looked it up.  By then I'd given up.

Missed the last tune due to a phone call from one of my freelance clients, but it's cool. I have heard enough Cake to last me to the rest of my days. Being as they hailed from Sacramento I saw them a lot in their nascent years, opening for everyone from Jonathan Richman to the Meat Puppets, and John McCrea was always a bit to smug for my taste, even when they were doing three sets a night in some bar. He's got his schtick down though, and gotta say they're one of the better bands to spring from Sac-burgh. Far better than Steel Breeze or Tesla (nee City Kid), up there with Bourgeois Tagg and the Deftones.
Let's get right to it.

I never knew Tesla started out as "City Kid" -- did they change because of City Boy?

Not sure why they changed--that happened about the time they got signed, so it may have been pressure from the record company. But they played the Oasis Ballroom for years under the old name, then suddenly they had a record out and they were Tesla. Can't say that was a bad move--City Kid is a crappy name.

OK, "bower" is in "Gallow's Pole", which I never woulda guessed.  And "strewn" is in "Sunday Bloody Sunday", which I probably woulda gotten given time to think about it.

too bad, you could do so much with "City Kid": Shitty Kid, Pity Squid, etc.

They got tired of being made fun of.  "Tesla" foils most punny wags, I'd bet.
