Ice Ice Baby is a guilty pleasure. Yes, he ripped of Queen and actually lied about it (per some video interview I saw)...

I heard the same thing, wherein he said, "It's not a ripoff of Queen*, because
the Queen riff goes:  bum bum bum bah-dah bum bum, [rest] bum bum bum bah-dah bum bum',
and my riff goes:  bum bum bum bah-dah bum bum, bah bum bum bum bah-dah bum bum'."

*of course Queen were ripping off Chic, and I never heard them acknowledge that either.  So it's kind of like the pot denying it's black when the kettle denies it too.

But, did Mr Ice have an actual bass player reproducing the riff, or did he sample the orig?  'cause if it was the latter, he's not just a liar he's a complete idiot.

DAMMIT -- a "classic" Dave HFH; AL's still ill.

Just heard webster say today's set is another classic--Cover Versions from Hell. Which, iirc, includes Madonna's American Pie. Duck! Run!
Let's get right to it.

he was a liar and an idiot -- he might still be, for all I know -- but the song is great!

BOS Faith Hill, I don't care what "purists" say -- this country reworking is damned ingenious.

wow, Pat Boone must have some Transylvannian ancestry, cause she sure sucked the life out of that Little Richard classic...

Yeah, once I got my head around it *not* being Janice (or Irma) I'm kinda liking it.

For good or bad, this set is not in the DB so far as I can find. So at least we get the opportunity to be surprised by a classic. (And to fill in the blank in the DB.)
Let's get right to it.

I don't get the hate for Jason Mraz. He is certainly a lot more tolerable than Mat Kearney, IMHO

My all-00's HFH:

Hinder, "Lips Of An Angel"
Christina Aguilera/Pink/Mya/Lil Kim, "Lady Marmalade"
Mariah Carey, "We Belong Together"
Simple Plan, "Perfect"
Nickelback, "Photograph" (I don't mind them as much as some, but this song is definitely grating)
Madonna, "American Pie"
Miley Cyrus, "The Climb"
Mat Kearney, "Closer To Love" (although it wasn't a mainstream hit, it did chart AAA and HAC)
Michael Jackson, "You Rock My World" (sorry)
Fergie, "Fergalicious"
