RIP Larry Knechtel, 69
« on: August 29, 2009, 10:26:30 PM »
Just caught up with this; apparently he died last week. Keyboardist & bassist, a member of the famed studio aggregation The Wrecking Crew, he joined Bread in 1971.

If memory serves, he was a regular player on the Partridge Family recordings, too, along with other sessionmen like Blaine and Tommy Tedesco.
Let's get right to it.

indeed, the "Wrecking Crew" was legendary, having played on Spector's Wall-of-Sound hits, many Beach Boys LPs, etc etc.  Glen Campbell was a "Crew" member for years before he started having hits of his own.

Knechtel's name came up during 'LNG's Ellie Greenwich tribute, and it was mentioned he may have been the only musician to play with both Elvises (Presley & Costello)!

Not true. I know James Burton played with both of 'em, just off the top of my head.
