speaking of, the actor I'm thinking of directed 3 of the 4 eps he "murdered" in.

oops, i see you got it. #6 is #1!

and if you knew that, you must have seen who directed the first episode (televised as part of the NBC Mystery Movie series), no?

yup -- that Spielberg kid. Whatever happened to him?

oh yeah!  the extras on the Duel DVD mention his tenure as a TV director and I think show a few clips of his work on the Sunday Night Mystery.

Steven Bochco wrote that one as well.  And later that first year an ep was directed by Jonathan Demme.

This show was really murder on their careers!

The guys who created Columbo, Levinson & Link, were quite prolific:

Quote
William Link and Richard Levinson co-created and produced the detective television series Columbo, Mannix, Ellery Queen, Murder, She Wrote and Scene of the Crime. They also collaborated on several made-for-TV movies including My Sweet Charlie (interracial love), That Certain Summer (Hal Holbrook and Martin Sheen as gay lovers --in 1974!), The Judge and Jake Wyler, The Execution of Private Slovik, Charlie Cobb: A Nice Night for a Hanging, and Blacke's Magic, which was also developed into a short-lived TV series

what actor played a murderer in 4 different episodes?

#6 (and he directed three of those eps)

Jack Cassidy?

Good guess - He was always in them

In fact he was a murderer 3 times, as was Robert Culp.

I am confused -- who is #6?

Ah, gotcha.  It's hard to keep up with Pop culture refs you didn't really experience personally.  The Prisoner is one of those things under my radar at the time.

Yes.  the other one is Barbara Colby...not so famous, but she was the murder victim (by Jack Cassidy!) on that first ep that Spielberg directed & Bochco wrote.  Which is where I stumbled upon it.

I remember Shatner as a (hammy) murderer... after that, I'm blanking.
