"even a fool in his mind is free" -- Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd St Band, "Doin' What Comes Naturally", their last charted hit (in '73, after they'd left Warners for Dunhill).

Followed by one of my all-time HFHs, "Love Jones". "If someone was to rip me off of you, I couldn't account for mah actions afterwards."  And even more black bubblegum: the Ponderosa Twins + One (!) with a 1971 cover of "You Send Me".

And a rare NTM Ike & Tina single, "Workin' Together (We Can Make a Change)" a socially conscious let's-all-join-hands ballad from 1970.

"Take you to the shoppin' center
Buy you a brand new dress
Buy you a wash-machine and ironing board
So you can keep your new dress pressed"

ah, they just don't write romantic sentiments like that any more!  (Detroit Emeralds, "Do Me Right", 1971) Happy Valentine's Day indeed.

Teddy P says "Satisfaction Guaranteed -- or Take Your Love Back", their follow-up to "The Love I Lost", and how it managed to miss the Top 40 is a mystery to me.

"you don't have no reason to be nervous
Teddy Bear's gonna give you the best of service"

Oh MY!

OMFG and Flashback-of-the-Week: Ralph Carter (the little kid from Good Times) and his disco cover of the Marvelettes' "When You're Young and In Love" -- I have not heard this since 1975.

JJ's Soul LP cut of the Week is my WOS of the evening: Natalie Cole's "I'm Catchin' Hell", an anti-women's lib song about stayin' with that no-good man just because. For shame, Ms. Cole!
