That boy is a P-I-G Peeeg!
When visiting Universal Studios in Hollywood, ask for Mandy.
actually "Mandy" would be legal in '75, right?
That'd actually be a good HFH candidate, methinks. If Dave ever returns, that is.
I work with a woman named Mandy, and her parents named her after that song.
from Songfacts.com:
Scott English wrote the lyrics and recorded it in 1971 as "Brandy." His version was a hit in the UK. When Manilow recorded it for the US, this was changed to "Mandy" to avoid confusion with the Looking Glass hit "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)." The bit about "Mandy" being about Manilow's dog is an urban myth. English says he was woken by a phone call from a reporter, wanting to know who "Brandy" was. "I would have said anything to get rid of him," says English, "So I spat out the first thing that came to mind: It was about a dog like Lassie and I had sent her away - now you go away!' And I hung up on him." (thanks, Judy - Melbourne, Australia)
I have a Barry Manilow box set (cue Mike: "Know how I know you're gay?"), and he tells this story there too. And includes his first attempt at recording it. A studio guy says, "Mandy, take one." And Barry says, "Oh, am I singing
Mandy?" And proceeds to sing "Brandy" the first time through, muttering, "Whoops!" immediately after. A shame, as it was an otherwise strong first take.
For 10 frink points: Anyone else know the name of Barry's dog (that Mike posted a pic of)?
