Now this song is kind of timely--it never DOES rain in California anymore! Hope you guys are enjoying all the nice weather down there.
Let's get right to it.

Tower Of Power   You're Still A Young Man
Faces   Stay With Me
Crusaders   Put It Where You Want It
Led Zeppelin   Black Dog
Nilsson   Coconut
Badfinger   Baby Blue
Stylistics   People Make The World Go Round
Slade   Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Albert Hammond   It Never Rains In Southern California
Apollo 100   Joy

After reviewing the great 72 sets in the db, this was not near the top of the list for me.

And talk about your sledgehammers--Apollo 100's take on Ode to Joy, a OHW if there ever was one.

I'd like Vahevala as a bonus. Or Steely Dan, or.... too many others.

Another serious BOS contender in Badfinger--such a great band. And pretty much all of these songs were on the charts in '72--I remember hearing 'em on the Top 40 station I was addicted to back then--KROY, may it rest in peace.
About 20 years ago I was at a Beatle fan convention in NJ and followed behind two original members of Badfinger as they strolled thru the swap meet. It was fun to be a fly on the wall and overhear their remembrances of the Beatles and that late 60's early 70's era as they would spot memorabilia.
Badfinger with George & Patti Harrison:

I love those tunic shirts!    Pete Ham looks like he left his cult compound for this shot.

Must've been Joey Molland & Mike Gibbins--the other two original members had expired by the early 80s.

Can't say I recall this one from '72, but I came to appreciate it later on--Mama, Weer All Crazee Now. Just think, if they'd been able to spell who know where they coulda gone?!? ;)

Slade got a lot of NYC prog-FM airplay at the time; WNEW-FM had a weekly "English Hour" on Friday afternoon where they'd play highlights of the British singles chart. Slade had a number of #1's in the UK and they always got played.

A common misconception, but this was not based on "Ode To Joy", from Beethoven's 9th symphony, but rather from the J. S. Bach cantata "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring".

I actually got to hear the first and last songs in the car to/from my meeting.

And it looks like I made the same mistake the first time this set aired:

Wonder if their reunion that was mentioned for this year is still on track?

Indeed it is - I heard an announcement recently that Flea will be playing bass for them on tour.

Was listening while doing other things; BOS to "Baby Blue" and "It Never Rains."  Decent range for a '72 set, I think.

This time around they really *will* read Rod's Power Point.
