Eraserhead was indeed Lynch's first big commercial film. Nearly unwatchable. And I was a film major...

"commercial" is not a word I'd use to descibe it; it was a Midnite Movie cult sensation. Certainly his first film to get noticed, tho'.

Blue Velvet, one of the most overrated films of the last 25 years.

Do you like anything else by David Lynch better?  He's certainly not for everybody.

Did Lynch do Eraserhead?  That's among my 5 Least Favorite Films, along with Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Striking Distance, Mercury Rising, and that one with Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone.

Never cared much for "Ps, Ts, and As" either.  John Candy never done nothin' for me.

BOS to the Mission-arrr-y Man.  Fierce drumming and harmonica!

If you're showing it in a theater & charging admission it's "commercial" as far as I'm concerned- but, yeah- it wasn't intended for a mainstream audience.

"Welcome To The Boomtown" & The Hooters "Day By Day" & now "Missionary Man", really evocative of 1986 for me.

I should elaborate that in '86 I was slowly realizing that the decline in music from '84 to '85 was only being exacerbated.

I just found it painfully unfunny.  I've liked Steve Martin and John Candy in plenty of other films (Edie McClurg as well) but I just thought the plot was dismal and the gags were flat.

I may have to agree. Best of a snoozy lot.  But I wish Dave'd play "I Need A Man" just once -- one of Annie's best performances, IMHO.

Because of the Kevin Bacon cameo, I'm guesing.

HM, Oingo Boingo.  Not the greatest thing, but it's got me bouncing in my chair.

One of John Hughes' most underrated efforts, IMHO.

I'm glad Dave remembers that Oingo Boingo exists, but it sure would be nice if he played tunes from any of their first 3 albums or the subsequent one.  Plenty of great tunes that were big hits in California.

Really. Seems like all we ever hear is Dead Man's Party in every Halloween set.
Let's get right to it.
