#31, "Son of Sagittarius".
He rides this groove nicely - I dig.  Amazing he didn't do more in the disco era.

Gettin' with the kissin'! Huggin' and-a lovin'!  On and on!  Gladys & the Pips gets BOS, if such a thing can be offered a Casey countdown.

And now a guilty pleasure, Mac Davis, "One Hell of a Woman."  Like a gentle, ahem, kitten in his hand.  (Mac later acknowledged that he nicked the chords from "Satisfaction" for this.)

So Mac had cat-scratch fever years before the Nooge!

Indeed, the original lyrics of his other big hit were "I believe in nookie / I believe in wang dang sweet poontang."

Took me over an hour to get a clean connection to the Klassic Kasem ‘80s countdown of 6/4/83. But quite a lineup of forgotten hits:

39 – Pat Benatar, “Looking for a Stranger”
35- Christopher Cross, “No Time For talk”
32 – Jim Capaldi – “That’s Love”
29 – BeeGees, “The Woman in You”
27 – LRB, “We Two” (I barely remember this one, far from their best)
26 – Champaign, “Try Again”
12 – Rick Springfield, “Affair of the Heart”
9 – Laura Branigan, “Solitaire” (NOT the Sedaka/Carpenters hit)

Intro'ing Carly Simon at 27, Casey quotes a source/review comparing Carly to Janis Joplin, "with Judy Collins's refinement and Grace Slick's energy."  In the words of Don Pardo - "Can I hear that again?!"

Nassau's gone funky!  Miniskirts, maxi skirts, afro hair-do - ugh!  BOS at #23 with the Beginning of the End, with VHM votes to Gladys Knight & the Pips ("I Don't Want to Do Wrong") and the Fortunes doing the second-best Four Seasons knockoff ever ("Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again").  WOS to Tom Jones's "Puppet Man" (embarrassing, and I like the 5Ds' version).

I'd never realized that the J5 and Isaac Hayes versions of "Never Can Say Goodbye" were contemporaneous.  I'd've thought a bigger lag between the former and the latter.

Ooh!  8th Day!

The second JCS entry here, the near-title track, is introduced as being by Murray Head and the Trinidad Singers.  Never heard of them.

Clifton Davis made a whole lotta residuals that year.  Fabulous stuff, and I'm looking forward to hearing Brenda & the Tabulations' Fan-Tab-Yoo-Luss "Right on the Tip of My Tongue" -- "Didn't you KNOW?? Couldn't you SEE IT???"

The '80s set rewinds us to 1988, when Van Halen were debuting with the forgettable "Black & Blue" and Steve Winwood was debuting with the Booker-T-able "Roll With It."

XM has added Rick Dees' show from the 80's and 90's on weekends now too as well as Casey's show.
