Casey plays LRB's "It's a Long Way There" at #32 and says "this is a big one" -- so of course 2 weeks later it peaked at #28.

Best flashbacks of the week: "Love Me", Whinyface Elliman's fine BeeGees cover, and Alice Cooper's "I Never Cry".

Last week on CG I head the Barron Knights' silly parody of "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing": "The Tailor Took My Pants In".  Weird Al would be jealous.  But here's the original. I say "leo" all the time -- does that make me a leo sayer?

Whose wine? What wine? Whythehell must Frampton whine?

OMG! Casey actually said "Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis too"! And here's another fine forgotten hit: ED&JFC's "Nights are Forever", even if it's one of Casey's patented 90-second edits.

BOS: "Nadia's Theme," just for it striking out-of-placeness and the vividness with which I remember it

OMGWTFLOL: Commodores, "Just to Be Close to You" (that spoken-word stuff is SO over the top)

heh, those smooth words sound almost like a parody. Lionel Richie's southern accent is really prominent:  "I learnt that muh-tair-eel thangs .. haive no val-yuh."

eta: he's preaching here, and I mean that sorta literally: his cadence and pronunciation are very preacher-like.

Rick Dees and his Disco Duck should go duck hunting w Dick Cheney.  (Say that five times fast.)

Congratulations, you've just ruined this song for me!   :D

Tee hee. WABC's Dan Ingram used to do that joke every time he played the song -- replete with exaggerated drag-queeny voice. Oh, the '70s...

Meant to mention yesterday: Casey's '80s went to 1985.  Since I was listening to AT40 ardently at this period, nothing was NTM.  We missed by one week a near-forgotten (Ray Parker Jr.'s "Girls Are More Fun" dropped out) but the only tune that seemed close to obscure was the Thompson Twins' "Lay Your Hands on Me."

I assume this week will take us to the late end of the '70s, giving me hope that the following week will be '72.  If every oldies station in America doesn't take a Christmas hiatus, that is.

not sure why we're getting a mid-Nov chart in Dec, but this kinda screws up Gaz's hopes for a chart closer to his B-Day.
Good stuff here, tho': Nilsson, Cashman & West's superb "American City Suite", the J-5's "Corner of the Sky" (a song from the B'way show Pippin, which Motown had a major investment in) and my fave Fifth D ballad. But I really don't need the hear "All the Young Dudes" again this week, and (sorry Gaz) Donna Fargo's "Funny Face" is an all-time HFH for me.

A very entertaining chart overall, and the absolute highlight was Casey's playing the full 8-minute version of "American City Suite", a small masterpiece. Sadly, the local airing at noon on KYCY is being pre-empted by college hoops.

speaking of Dave Mason...

Great stuff there (Ms Ronstadt back-to-back with her own self!), Debbie Boone notwithstanding.

I'm up at 10am for the '77 countdown.

And there are three men in full Santa suits standing in my hallway.

Is it the hash?

Anyway.  Off to a nice start with "As" at 40 (not the full song, alas) and the weird "Love Is Thicker Than Water" debuting at 39.
