There are NO coincidences, Vol XXXVIII:

I just called a doctor's office in Monterey and they put me on hold. I heard Maroon 5, "Sunday Morning". I thought, jokingly, "they've got Smooth FM on their Hold Music!"

Then Maroon 5 ended and they played... Swingout Sister, "Breakout"!!!

cue Twilight Zone theme...  (turns out it was a local station)
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

they are one and the same.  Apparently there was a Brit group called the Spinners at one time and they threatened to sue or something.

The opposite happened here, where The Beat had to become The English Beat because an obscure American band called the Beat threatened legal action.

And may the force be with you, princess! Now take those cinnamon buns off your ears...

The American version wasn't that obscure--I was under the impression it was Paul Collins' Beat from LA.

The same thing happened with Squeeze at first (their first album was released as Squeeze UK) but I think they were able to buy the name. Ditto for Charlatans UK, because of the 60s psychedelic band by that name.
Let's get right to it.
