Even George f---ing Will is dumping on McCain:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/22/AR2008092202583.html

I've been reading George F. Will for over 20 yrs (as a regular Newsweek subscriber, that is, not as a fiscally conservative old-school Republican), and that is just a singularly amazing piece from him.  He is now only one tiny nudge away from endorsing Obama.

Has Hell, in fact, frozen over?

URGENT ASSISTANCE
« Reply #228 on: September 24, 2008, 06:18:19 AM »
DEAR AMERICAN TAXPAYER;

I NEED TO ASK YOU TO SUPPORT AN URGENT SECRET BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP
WITH A TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF GREAT MAGNITUDE.

I AM MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY OF THE REPUBLIC OF AMERICA. MY COUNTRY
HAS HAD CRISIS THAT HAS CAUSED THE NEED FOR LARGE TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF
700 BILLION DOLLARS US. IF YOU WOULD ASSIST ME IN THIS TRANSFER, IT
WOULD BE MOST PROFITABLE TO YOU.

I AM WORKING WITH MR. PHIL GRAM, LOBBYIST FOR UBS, WHO WILL BE MY
REPLACEMENT AS MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY IN JANUARY. AS A SENATOR, YOU
MAY KNOW HIM AS THE LEADER OF THE AMERICAN BANKING DEREGULATION
MOVEMENT IN THE 1990S. THIS TRANSACTIN IS 100% SAFE.

THIS IS A MATTER OF GREAT URGENCY. WE NEED A BLANK CHECK. WE NEED THE
FUNDS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. WE CANNOT DIRECTLY TRANSFER THESE FUNDS
IN THE NAMES OF OUR CLOSE FRIENDS BECAUSE WE ARE CONSTANTLY UNDER
SURVEILLANCE. MY FAMILY LAWYER ADVISED ME THAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR A
RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY PERSON WHO WILL ACT AS A NEXT OF KIN SO THE
FUNDS CAN BE TRANSFERRED.

PLEASE REPLY WITH ALL OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, IRA AND COLLEGE FUND
ACCOUNT NUMBERS AND THOSE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO
WALLSTREETBAILOUT@TREASURY.GOV SO THAT WE MAY TRANSFER YOUR COMMISSION
FOR THIS TRANSACTION. AFTER I RECEIVE THAT INFORMATION, I WILL RESPOND
WITH DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT SAFEGUARDS THAT WILL BE USED TO
PROTECT THE FUNDS.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,

MINISTER OF TREASURY PAULSON

Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

Geoff, that was genius.
it wasn't me.  I was really taken aback at first by the fact that a friend would send me the classic email scam letter.  I had to re-read the sender before I even allowed my eyes to read the all-caps message!

He's not the only one. McCain bailed on Letterman, and I guess Dave's pissed.

That clip is worth watching on YouTube just to hear Dave shout to John, "You need a ride to the airport?"  It's the first time Letterman has been important in far too long.

I'll be resentful if McCain succeeds in moving the debate back to the day of the VP debate and cancelling the VP debate altogether.  There are early voters casting their ballots now who cannot possibly know anything of substance about Palin!  Granted, after her disastrous performance with Katie Couric (of all freaking people), I can understand why the GOP wouldn't want to put that naked empress on a stage, but this is damaging to America.

Y'all remember when Jon Stewart went off on Tucker Carlson, letting him know that his brand of newsiness was hurting America?  I want to play that loop on repeat to the message-meisters of the GOP for the next 40 days.  (I'd say all Republicans, but I'm trying to believe there are still some Republicans who vote with the party because they believe in its theoretical small-government stance rather than because they're afraid of poor people, gay people, black people, and brown people impinging on their lilly-white Biblevania.)

Stewart, BTW, has been quite merciless to Palin, bless his Noo Yawk Jewish heart.

Big uproar in Portland because the Oregonian, our local paper, accepted a highly inflammatory anti-Muslim DVD to be distributed in its Sunday edition yesterday. The DVD, called "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West" was sponsored by an Israeli-funded right-wing nonprofit called the Clarion Group.

There's a demonstration planned for 10am today outside the Oregonian's offices, and huge outcry for people to cancel their subscriptions in protest. I am considering joining them, at least for a time. The thought of not getting the local paper during an election season is killing me.
Let's get right to it.

The Internet has mostly obviated the need for getting a local paper.  Cancel the sub, continue to read their website if you like their coverage of things otherwise.  They've declared that it's money that matters, so make your voice heard with your money.

Just my, um, two cents.
