I'm not sure how I feel about what I wrote, it's kind of choppy, but I felt compelled to put something down before it went away

That was a lovely tribute, Geoff.  The new format starts Thursday, allegedly.  So enjoy the next few days.

Indeed, very sweet and from the heart. And I love the way you wrapped it all up.
Let's get right to it.

I'm not very pleased with my prose lately.  And with all these copy editors, I don't know why I post this!

You post this because no matter what fussy copy editors like me might quibble over, you speak truth to power.  Thank you for posting this.  Very important reading for Memorial Day.  (Or any other day.)

You sound like a Jewish mother!  Not in your blog, which is uniformly good & always has been, but in your self-deprecation!

Keep it up Geoff!  Any imperfections. imagined or otherwise, just make you real.  Like Gaz said, this is important stuff.

Speaking as another fussy copy editor, I wouldn't change a word (well, maybe just one, but it's not a big deal). Props to you for continuing to speak your mind--eloquently and from the heart, as always.

Thank you very much.  It now seems like I was fishing for a compliment, which I wasn't, it's just that sometimes it feels smoother to me, and this time, I just felt kind of un-smooth, if that makes any sense!

I didn't mean my jewish mother comment to be taken that way.  I understood where you were coming from & just figured a little ribbing would go nicely with the reassurance.

I anxiously await his ponouncements on the subject.  Needless to say, I'm in full agreement, though if I post on that matter, I'll save it for the right-wing thread.

*sigh*  I think we all deep down knew something like this would happen.  Bush would've eventually commuted Kenny Lay's sentence too, had the fucker not died.

Yep, it was inevitable. I'd suspect this had been arranged before the Libbey trial had even started. What's frustrating is that to my understanding, an action of this sort falls under "executive privilege" and there's no recourse by any other branch of government, save for impeachment. Which we don't want to happen, for the reason Geoff mentions in the last line of his blog.
Let's get right to it.

great post Geoff, really well written.  Your sentiments are very closely aligned to my own on this matter, but I really just dug the writing.
