well, this Xmas '88 retro-chart on CG is quite interesting -- a cover of "I say a Little Prayer" by Bomb the Bass (new to me) followed by Bananarama's cover of "Nathan Jones" (from the RainMan sndtk, iirc).

Artist was immortalized in Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance": "Bomb the Bass - rock this place!"

PS: I saw there was an EP on that chart they're recapping.  Do they play the entire EP in the countdown, or select a track from it?

we'll be lucky to hear one tune, I reckon. And indeed "Buffalo Stance" is coming up. Didn't hit in the US until Spring/Summer '89 as I recall.

That totally made my week -- hadn't heard it in ages. Would that Dave would bust it out for an '89 set. "Y'know'tahmean?"

WTF??? Pet Clark's "Downtown" was a hit re-release in '88!

And Lady Cliff just called Ethel Merman "Methyl Ermine".  LOL!

followed -- holy crap! -- by Nina Simone's "I Got Love", Sandie Shaw's fab "Long Live Love" (later covered by Tracey Ullman), and Ms King's "It Might As Well Rain Until Sept".  I'm in heaven.

Wow -- some sort of remix of Shirley Bassey's 1967 version of "Big Spender".

Indeed, today's AT40 recap is the second half of the 1978 year-end.  "Dust in the Wind" at 39, "The Closer I Get to You" at 38.

I didn't know that: Longtime hitmeister Barry Mann co-wrote the melody of Dan Hill's otherwise dismal "Sometimes When We Touch."  Now ABBA gets Erasuresque at 32, and Raydio's "Jack & Jill" makes a surprise appearance at 31.  Seriously, when's the last time anyone played this on the radio?

Peter Brown!  "Dance With Me" at 29.

I imagine the final hour of this will be all Bee Gees, Andy Gibb, and other RSO acts.
