WOS Styx, who for some reason decided to try to sound like Loverboy.

I always thought it was their attempt to be "new wave".

Maybe they aimed for "new wave", but all they got was "Loverboy-clone"

Let me guess--Too Much Time On My Hands?  Yeah, that's what a 70s guitar rock (and I use the term loosely) band sounds like when they try to do New Wave. Pretty pitiful, eh?

Yup. I guess it was the hand-claps that made me think they were trying to be Cars-y.  BOC had a Cars imitation too, on one of their early-'80s LPS but I can't remember the name of the tune -- a NY DJ used to call them The Blue Oyster Cars whenever she played it.
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round
