CDX plays Mr Joel's masterful "Captain Jack" -- I've never heard this on SF radio, but it was a NYC staple, since "Captain Jack" is a specifically Noo Yawk reference (Captain Jack was a local kiddie show host in the '60s).

I never knew that - I thought it was a reference to Jack Daniel's, as in, you're gonna get shitfaced tonight.

Indeed, it works in multiple ways, which is why it's so great. ("Captain Jack" has also been interpreted as the nickname of a drug dealer.)

Just turned over to KRSH for the Friday Soul Patrol and instead am hearing Werewolves of London, followed by the Jayhawks' excellent Waiting For the Sun. Great songs both, but not exactly soulful.

So is the Soul Patrol lady on vacay or have we had a programming change? Hope it's the latter!

ETA: Scratch that. They appear to be running just a bit behind today. They have now returned to what appears to be the usual programming. Yowzah!
Let's get right to it.

Maybe I was right the first time. They played an old R&B tune I'm not sure of the name of ("you're just a fool, but you're only in love...how can he treat you that way when he's such a good man?") and then followed that with a Chris Isaak soundalike. Def. not Soul Patrol. What be up? Lawdamercy!

One of Greg's listeners, a 42-year-old gay guy, sez Greg doesn't play enuf "gay disco songs" ... Um... are there any other kind?

anyway, he plays Evelyn Thomas' "Hi NRG", which I haven't heard in a dog's age.

Ms Thelma Houston with her wonderful, underrated follow-up to "Don't Leave Me...", "Saturday night (keeps shining on my sunday morning face)", which sounds like it could be a Harold Melvin cover too, tho' I'll have to investigate that. I can certainly imagine Teddy singing it.

Well, apparently it's not a Harold Melvin cover, but didya know Ms Houston did an album of duets with Jerry Butler that includes a medley of Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now" and the BeeGees' "Love So Right"? Damn, gotta get my hands on that.

Kool & the Gang, singin' 'bout Miss Lead. "She's as heavy/As a Chevy" -- well, duh, she's made of lead.  She married Mr Wood and they had lots of little pencils.
