Well, VIP's stream ain't workin', so i went over to WLNG in time for Patti Drew's orig 1968 version of "Working on a Groovy Thing". Sounds like somebody said to Marilyn McCoo, "hey this Patti Drew chick sounds like you -- you should cover this song!"

followed by Jay & the Americans' cover of the Ronettes' "Walking in the Rain" -- haven't heard this since '69.

It was in regular rotation for years on 3WS in Pittsburgh, and I haven't heard it since leaving the Keystone State in '96.  (They loved that and "This Magic Moment," but for some reason never got around to playing "Come a Little Bit Closer" or "Cara Mia."  Hrm.)

Deep Tracks 7/22/06

I've been Deep Tracking while working much of this afternoon/evening.  Biggest and best surprises: Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks doing "Needles & Pins" live ('85, I think); and right now, Donovan's "Epistle to Dippy."

it took me awhile to get into it. but not as long as, say, morph the cat.

someone just sent me a link to pandora, my new favorite radio station!!!!

i entered steely dan, and they played a good mix of steely dan, small faces, leon russell, and queen. then i entered gino vanelli, and the first song they played was "love and emotion." i'll see how they keep the smooth after this song.

well, the gino vanelli channel has proven to be the best of cheesy smooth. i'm currently listening to eric carmen's version of "on broadway." i'll type in grover washington, jr. next to see what they play.

Little Steven OMGWTF Nugget o'the Week: Jackie DeShannon's original version of "When You Walk in the Room", which if I've ever heard it before it was a VERY long time ago. Delightful.

And now he's doing a salute to the great 1967 movie Privilege, (starring Manfred Mann lead singer Paul Jones and Jean Shrimpton!) which you simply MUST rent if you've never seen it.
