Very strong start with XTC.

And a very strong continuation with the English Beat.

Yup, though immensely popular.  Actually, Abacab isn't bad, especially when compared with "Illegal Alien".  It actually rocks much harder than most of Genesis -- could certainly do without the boring outro...

True, they did continue to get worse for several years after this.

On the other hand, BOS for I Have the Touch from Mr. Gabriel, who had sense enough to bail on the rest of the band years earlier.

Not sure, but I don't think so. I didn't think they started for another year or two.

at the beginning of the song, I can't tell the difference between the Jon and Vangelis version, and the Donna Summer version!

Ditto.  I think it's odd that there are so many versions of this quite unusual song.  It's not something you hear and think "That's easy!  I can do that better!"  Well, I don't think it anyway.

As admin, I see a list of people who are online, and except for youngster POC, it seems to be the older crowd, which makes it hard to deal with an 80's set!

Yeah, we tried to play it in church once.  I just LOVE the Moodswings version with Chrissie Hynde
