I could swear 80 percent of this set was in the 03 Turkey set as well. Now I gotta go home and see how much I'm remembering correctly and how much is delusion.

OK, I'm half deluded. Today's Turkeys had four songs in common with the 11/27/2003 Turkey set. Here it is:

Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me A-ha A-ha A-ha-Trio
Mah-na Mah-na - From the movie "Sweden: Heaven and Hell"
Jungle Fever-The Chakachas
Where Have All The Cowboys Gone-Paula Cole
Shake Your Bon Bon-Ricky Martin
Hocus Pocus-Focus
Tubthumping-Chumbawamba
88 Lines About 44 Women-The Nails
Teddy Bear-Elvis Presley
Pop Muzik-M

And for comparison's sake, here's today:

Kool & the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
Mah-Na-Mah-Na
Trio - Da Da Da (I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me, Aha Aha Aha)
Focus - Hocus Pocus
Vapors - Turning Japanese (Best Turkey of Set!!)
Lipps, Inc. - Funky Town
Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling
Dexy's Midnight Runner - C'Mon Eileen
Tony Basil - Mickey
BONUS TRACK:  Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Mois

And from Darryl's 10@10 log site, 2002:

11/27/2002 - Wednesday!  Today is Turkey Day on 10 at 10!!!
    1. Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
    2. Sweet - Little Willie
    3. Marcels - Blue Moon
    4. Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown
    5. Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
    6. Beatles - You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)
    7. Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz
    8. Hot Butter - Popcorn
    9. Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight
   10. Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
Let's get right to it.

went out to Izzy's for our son's 28th birthday (oy!) and am watching Goldeneye whilst listening to Turkeys.  Long version of Hocus Pocus on now.  I hope everyone has a nice T-day; we're going to drive all the way to Clovis and back tomorrow.
Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

Turkeys throughout history

Did a quick search thru the old Yahoo groups message board and was able to reconstruct some earlier Thanksgiving Turkey sets--or parts thereof--not a terribly complete recounting in 1999, but there was some good debate on what constitutes a turkey that year, fueled by our old pal Rasztrelnikov. It turns out that the 2003 set listed above is a classic that originally aired the day before Thanksgiving 2000.

Wednesday and it's the 19th Annual Turkeys on Parade
11/21/2001

Vapors - Turning Japanese
Marcels – Blue Moon
Mah-Na Mah-Na (From the movie "Sweden, Heaven & Hell
Total Coleo - I Eat Cannibals
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy
ABBA - Maxi Mix!!
Trio - Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha
Clarence "Frogman" Henry - Ain't Got No Home
Spice Girls - Wanna Be
They Might Be Giants – Istanbul Not Constantinople

2000-11/22/2000
See 11/27/2003 above

11/24/1999
People Who Died-Jim Carroll (?!?)
Hocus Pocus-Focus
Da Da Da-Trio
Hooked on a Feeling-Blue Swede

Mah-na Mah-na and the Trio songs seem to be the biggest turkatrinas of the bunch, but the Chumbawamba and Focus are way up there too. Maybe time to retire them to the Turkey the Song Hall of Fame?
Let's get right to it.

That was especially appropriate, since Istanbul is *IN* Turkey!

I seem to recall that the 2003 rerun, oops, "classic" was actually run during the "variety show" on Thanksgiving Day afternoon.  There was also a year -- 5 or 6 years back -- when Dave eschewed the turkey set in favor of "Artists We're Thankful For", voted by Fogheads.

I think that was what aired on Thanksgiving day last year.
Let's get right to it.
