31 March 2016: it's... 2005 (The end of an era)
« on: March 30, 2016, 07:59:16 PM »
Sadly, my prediction was correct. Blorf. Only our second visit to '05. The thread is up, but I got nuthin'.

our previous set from the year:

Quote
1.  The Killers- Mr Brightside
(News: Hurricane Katrina devastation)
  2.  Allen Toissaint- Yes We Can Can
(TV: Daily Show: Pres Bush vacay response to hurricane damage)
  3.  Beck- Black Tambourine
  4.  White Stripes- My Doorbell
(Movie: Brokeback Mountain)
  5.  Bonnie Raitt- I Will Not Be Broken
(Movie: Brokeback Mountain)
  6.  Silver Jews- I'm Getting Back Into Getting Back Into You
(Movie: Brokeback Mountain)
  7.  Coldplay- Fix You
  8.  My Morning Jacket- Wordless Chorus
(News: "the facebook.com trance")
  9.  Spoon- I Turn My Camera On
(TV: Daily Show US not on board w/climate control Kyoto protocol)
10.  Arcade Fire- Wake Up

I may request Kanye or Gwen Stefani just to try to prevent another Triple-A fest.

Per the thread, she seems to be threatening to play Weezer's "Beverly Hills" which is in constant KFOG rotay these days.

I'm gonna predict, based on its appearance in a viral news story this week, that we hear "Mr Brightside" despite its previous appearance.

And someone requested Gnarls B's "Crazy" but it's from 2006, which presumably we'll hit sometime this year.

Okay, I think I've managed to request a diverse set of songs -- let's see if AL chooses any...

ETA: If anyone was wondering...

Ben Folds "Bitches Ain't Shit"
Paul McCartney "Friends To Go"
Al Green "Everything's OK"
Fountains Of Wayne "...Baby One More Time"
Three 6 Mafia "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp"
Fiona Apple "Extraordinary Machine"

I went out on a minor limb and requested "Kids With Guns". AL told me last Saturday that the only Gorillaz song the KFOG library has is "Feel Good Inc.", so that tells us a number of things.

Really? But they've played "Clint Eastwood" a bunch of times.

Very inauspicious beginning with Train.

Wait, what, it hasn't started yet?

Black Hole Sun ain't from 2005.

And what's this about the "Evolution" coming April 20?

I don't think the show has started yet. 10:06 and we just went into "Black Hole Sun", so it sounds like AL may be scrambling to get her clips together. 10@10:10 anyone?
Let's get right to it.

I heard that, too. Nary a clue. But I am guessing it doesn't have anything to do with smoking dope.

Well, I don't know what the heck is going on. But at least it's commercial-free. More evolution weirdness.

I think the smoking of the dope may have already started.

Black Hole Sun into How Soon Is Now... one almost might be forgiven for thinking
that KFOG still knows how to rawk...

Are we heading for 10 @10:30?  I wonder at what point they give up and play an encore.
(Not that I'm particularly looking forward to a 2005 set.)

I think the smoking of the dope may have already started.

And this time they referred to it as "4-20" so maybe there is an herbal component.

For a sec I thought maybe it was advance warning of a format flip, but they'd be asking for trouble if they tipped the audience that KFOG was  going away.
Let's get right to it.

what exactly did that "Evolution" thing say? I fear a format change, tho' those don't usually happen on a Wednesday, which is what 4/20 is this year.

Sheesh, I have a bad feeling it's gonna be robots on KFOG for the next 20 days. This is weird. And then who knows what.

No info on AL's page.
