indeed, but ultimately another pretty face who married a rich guy (John McEnroe -- she cannot be serious!). Fun Fact: Eddie VanHalen asked her to replace DLR in VH, but she said no.

Oh, no.  WOS to Scandal.  She does the obligatory cheese every 80s set, of course, but most of them, even the bad ones, are at least interesting.  Today's were not.  Or maybe that's because bad cheese can be very tolerable in between synth new wave...but bad cheese sounds awful in between more bad cheese and/or mid-tempo rock songs.  The Smiths couldn't save this set, and quite honestly sounded out of place here.

This is the first AL 80s set that's been a disappointment.

Oh yeah, I heard her once on Howard Stern talking about her married life w McEnroe.  She was pretty cool.  I'm sure they asked her about Tatum O'Neal, but of course Patty wouldn't bite. She was mum on Tatum. No scandals.

I see what you mean about the over all gist of this set... she's done better: last week's '87 set was one of my fave of the week.   I would have preferred another Lou Reed cut, for instance.

only thing I like better than a good trumpet solo is a good trombone solo.

BOS Dolby

LOL!  Do you play either?   My theory is that if you play trombone in the Bay Area, you can definitely get into a hip/wacky band somewhere.

Songs from Born in the U.S.A. now in the KFOG Db:

1  Born in the U.S.A.
2  Cover Me
5  Downbound Train
6  I'm on Fire
7  No Surrender
9  I'm Goin' Down
11  Dancing in the Dark

Songs not yet in the Db (couple of surprises here methinks)

3  Darlington County
4  Working on the Highway
8  Bobby Jean
10  Glory Days
12  My Hometown

OMG.  I had college roommates who wore their BITUSA album out.  I'm surprised ANY of these are missing from the DB.

BOS: David Bowie, for the immortal lyric "One day I'm going to write a poem in a letter"
WOS: Night Ranger, although it was generally a strong set IMHO

Song I'd love to hear in a 1984 10@10 set, but probably won't (and I didn't recently list):

"Strut" by Sheena Easton

I'm kind of surprised that "Glory Days" has never made 10@10. "My Hometown" seems like something Dave would have jumped on, but in all fairness, it was in my humble opinion one of the lesser tracks of this album.

No, but my two brothers played each.  Chris went & played trombone in the Stanford Band, and matriculated the year after The Play, so you could argue that he took over for the guy who got flattened in the end-zone.  Davefish was also in the LSJUMB at that time, so I knew him through my brother initially (sorry D, if you read this, for bringing up painful memories) and then a few years ago he showed up on this board & we figured out that we'd known each other 20+ yrs earlier.
