yikes, 1996. Like a lot of folks around here, my first reaction to a year that is not in the 70's is one of uh-oh! but a song you like hearing is a song you like hearing -- it sometimes doesn't get any simpler than that.  I cannot decipher 90% of what Billy Corgan is whining/coaking here in "1979," but I like the sound.  So a preliminary BOS.

Cuba Gooding Jr's peak.

The Ugly Americans were still around in '96? "You Turn me On" is NTM -- I only remember that "Vulcan Death Grip" song that blatantly channelled the Spin Doctors.

I've never been that big on Jamiroquai's Stevie Wonder imitation, but "Virtual Insanity" (ignored by KFOG in '96) sounds pretty good in the context of this snoozy set.

WOS Tracy Chapman, making a lackluster set even more lusterless.

yeesh, Wallflowers on 6th Ave -- 2nd time I've heard this today, which is 2 times too many.

I'll rep for this song, if no one else will.  Always thought it was a thrilling tradeoff between Dylan and Duritz, and it's very evocative of my SF arrival (cf: yesterday's blog post).
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”
