BOS Syndicate of Sound.

They were from San Jose, I think...
yeah, they played at our high school yearbook dance in '68

Back to the garage for Diddy Wah Diddy!  Is this Captain Beefheart?
This is certainly a freaky bustout!

OMG! BOS6 and proxy of geoff, PP&M.
I didn't really recognize the title of the song, so dug it up.  I do think I've heard it before, and it was indeed pretty emotional. Ironically, it seems it first came out in 1962 on the first album, but was a charting single in 1966.

Sitting here catching up on some work and listening to the replay. Noticed that the segue between See See Rider and I Fought the Law was pretty seamless--as if the two songs were one, almost. Very nicely played, AL.

I still miss Dave, but partly because he we'd gotten comfortable with him and he had that easygoing, avuncular style, and because he obviously loved what he was doing. But as we've figured out, he had his favorites for every year on the wheel, and he was loath to deviate from them more than maybe once or twice a week. She may eventually get into ruts of her own, but for now AL's really shown us how good this concept can be. We're getting to hear up to 6 or 7 songs per set that Dave just wouldn't play. (Maybe it's time to start lobbying again for Baby Got Back...Paging Beej Weir, white courtesy telephone.)

A good example of her autonomy is the fact that this is our second third trip to '66 in just over three months. In the previous 10 years we got only three '66 sets, period. I think we assumed that it was station management putting limits on how far back Dave could go, but why would they restrict him and then turn around and give AL free rein?

The one part I really do miss about Dave's sets is his backsells, with all sorts of asides, comments about callers, occasional stories and factoids, not to mention the outro music w/ Don Pardo. Oh, and also having a final tally for BOS voting at the end of the set. AL's sets often jump from the end of her backsell right into a commercial, and I still find that a little jarring.

I do think the lack of '60s sets from Dave was a management edict -- I remember when he still *did* do '66 regularly in the early-to-mid '90s, it was always a Friday and he clearly liked playing 10 short songs and getting out of the studio at 10:30. There was also that horrible month in '98 or '99 when K-101 went all-'80s and Dave was forced to do an '80s year every day for 3 weeks (*shudder*). KFOG has gone back-and-forth regarding what demographic they're chasing so many times in the past 15 years you could get whiplash.  And as we know, KFOG management is "in flux" as they say. Whether somebody at Cumulus came up with the new rotation or whether AL sold them on it, I dunno. But it seems they're doing it on purpose (maybe it helps them compete with "The Band"), and fingers crossed that they don't change directions again for a while.

Sure glad this one showed up on Saturday in the #4 spot.  Great set.

They've been tossing up the order for the marathon lately--they aren't in Mon-Fri order. Yesterday '87 was the first set, followed by '72. Not sure what followed.
Let's get right to it.
