Stream of Consciousness / Re: KFOG A-to-Z 2016
« on: January 08, 2016, 11:03:35 AM »
As has been the case in recent editions of A-Z there have been some strange omissions.  Like on Monday they went to commercial after "Bizarre Love Triangle", and I told myself, cool, now we're going to hear two or three songs that start with 'Black'.  But instead they went straight into a couple 'Blue' songs.

Tellingly, on the "Mind The Gap" bit this morning the questions all had answers with the letter M, since when Irish Greg prepared them earlier in the week he figured they'd be in the M's, and not 2/3 through the P's.  Later Renee said this would go into next week, but I will be shocked at this rate if they don't wrap up easiy on Sunday.

David Lynch's socks are on fire. BOS for Social Distortion's "Ring of Fire".

Ditto. The last 5 mins of the set were the best.  I could cough up another BOS for PiL, if only because it reminds me of the tie I met them during my chauffer days.  I drove Jane's, too, but just about every song on that album is better than BCS, so no BOS.

Clip (something sitcom clip about psychiatry)

That was Alex (Judd Hirsch) Rieger consoling Latka (Andy Kauffman) Gravas from Taxi.

..one of the best sitcoms OAT, and some would say the best.

Reagan inaugural --> Depeche Mode "Just can't Get Enuf" BOS2

Any song that gets a 15-volume Rhino Records collection named after it gets my BOS.

Between you and me and whoever else is paying attention, I don't need to read/hear/see anything regarding Star Wars for the rest of my life.

For anyone who isn't of BFMcG's mind, here is what the NYT has to say about yesterday's premier:

Ever since yesterday I've been trying to imagine clever segues from movie dialogue to songs from that year.  For example there's plenty of times that the Millennium Falcon has mechanical issues, and that could segue into or out of Boz's "Breakdown Dead Ahead" in 1980.

...and it's a shame that Yoda didn't appear in the first movie, because then we could segue from him to Randy Newman's "Short People."

 ;) ;) ;)

BOS for Roxy.  I don't recall ever hearing that before, but I must have listened to that album at least once back in the day, so I'm surprised I don't remember it.  Sure made an impression on me this morning.

Also: Lots of clips from Episode I: The Phantom Menace in today's set. Does this foretell that we'll get sets from '77, '80, '83 and 2002 in random order for the rest of this week? (Please, no 2005 set.)

Annalisa just said that what she intends to do.

At least that means we'll get one 70s set and a couple of early 80s set this week.

...and presumably not 2005, since we had it only 11 days ago.

I can always give a BOS for Take A Picture.  Love that song, it's one of my two (maybe three) favorites of the year.

...and here is one of the others that tops my list, BOS #2 Len.  I still contend this was one of the cleverest samples of the decade.

I suppose the last 2 songs will have to be Velvet Revolver & whatever his last project was called.

ETA:  I was wrong!  Here's my "Vasoline".

One of the top entries on my list of songs under 3:00 that desreved to be a lot longer.  Cream's "Badge" is #1 on this list.

Interesting cover of "Dancing Days".  Where did this originally show up?

7. Plush (acoustic version)

I know there's an acoustic take on this that was widely released, but this sounds a little different from that even. Did they ever have a track on one of the LFTA sets?

No, I'm quite sure that this is the bonus track from the CD.  The way he mutters the song intro is definitely the same.

I'm sitting in an otherwise empty office, so no one can verify this, but I predicted that 1) I would hear "Interstate Lave Song" again, 2) that they would play the accoustic demo version of "Plush" instead of the hit version, and that 3) I wouldn't hear "Vasoline", which is the only song I'd have really been looking froward to.

Still and all, I'll take this over a Koncert 4 Kids set anyday.
