Casey, on Elton's sartorial elegance: "Whatever happened to Mrs. Miller?"  TANC: I was listening to her eviscerations of "Downtown" and "A Lover's Concerto" this week!

VHM "Hello It's Me."  I've been on a bit of a Rundgren kick since hearing H&O's "Wait for Me" a week or so ago.

VHM to the Carpenters and, in Karen's words at the time, "that damn country song."

This is my favorite kind of chart.  A little bit of everything: funk, soul, country, novelty, comedy, and pop of various shades.  Co-BOS to the back-to-back "American Tune" and "Painted Ladies."

Live Lou is another too-frequent-flier (esp in the Morey era), good as it is. VHM.

it's certainly making this set a long one if not a great one.

Sort of a TANC: my former Voice colleague Chuck Eddy just wrote a package of the 50 worst cover songs ever, and the Cowboy Junkies' slowdown of "Sweet Jane" made the cut.  Read on: http://www.complex.com/music/2012/01/the-50-worst-cover-songs-of-all-time/

Leadoff BOS (and my request too!).
Kool & Gang opening for Van Halen this year: http://promo.livenation.com/vanhalen/
I remarked on a friend's FB page that that would be akin to LeAnn Rimes opening for Metallica. Completely inappropriate. Promoters milking it.
Could be interesting as long as they stick with the funk and avoid marshmallow like "Joanna" and "Cherish"
I'm just wondering what sort of demographic (aside from oddballs like us) would actually enjoy seeing both of those bands on the same stage on the same night.
Oddballs like me.
Anyone remember when K&tG did a free lunchtime show in Justin Herman Plaza about 10 or 15 yrs ago?

I have a faint memory of seeing them at the Embarcadero in that time frame - I think?

Yeah, I want a hit record too, but what I *really* wanted were Hits From Hell!

I'll predict that we get one anyway - "Seasons in the Sun," mayhaps?

Hope you're all well!  I've been disenchanted with and disengaged from AL's sets in recent weeks, but I'm here today.

Hope you had a great day, Wayback Dave!

You too, Geoff!  And to all of you, much happiness and health in 2012!

And I want to add: I am deeply indebted to you all, particularly Wayback and Mike, for the running RIP thread that gave me a great deal of my source material.  If I'd gotten paid for the piece, I'd be sharing it with you.  (Or I'd be covering the server costs next time it's due.)

And it's one more non-alcoholic beer and I don't hear you anymore......

Russell Brand files for divorce from Katy Perry, sugar bear.

I'm not surprised.  Hairy grease and animatronic blow-up dolls don't mix well.

So I've been way out of touch - whole lotta threads to catch up on over this holiday weekend - but I want to say HI to all and a belated Merry Christmas (and Hannukah and Kwanzaa and Festivus).  It's been a tough month for emotionally and I've been taking it out over things I can't control (as those of you who follow my Facebook posts can attest).  Trying to work on mellowing out a bit.  Meantime, for those of you who aren't on FB, some good news: I did a piece for TIME.com summarizing (with a sentence each) the lives of the lesser-knowns in the music biz who died in 2011.  (I wanted to add the Music Machine singer at the last minute but didn't know who to cut.)  Just between you and me, I don't think the editor really read it before giving the producers the go-ahead to publish it; I didn't think the Joseph Brooks snark would slide through.

BTW, last year, staying local on NYE, I staged an impromptu FB dance party via YouTube clips.  If I do the same tomorrow I'll let y'alls know.

Wishing you love, peace, happiness and health in 2012,
Gaz.

Going through my stuff, and ran across my very first baseball glove, circa 1967.  A Sports Master J-300, can't tell the maker.  I might do a google search in a minute.  I wish I had my original Willie Mays bat day bball bat from the same period.

Still, what do you do with something like this at age 52?  I can't throw it away.  But I don't really see the need to keep it either.  But there is nothing -- absolutely nothing! -- I loved more than that baseball glove when I was 10 years old.

Got any baseball-interested nephews or nieces?  Or a Boys' Club type organization that provides gifts to kids?

The link crapped out on me several times.  It's gotten harder to catch full eps lately, with so many stations having gone all-Christmas.
