Mick didn't get an Oscar nom for "Old Habits Die Hard," his collaboration with Dave Stewart on the Alfie soundtrack.  A good song, to be sure.

black is black - woohoo! did nina simone write this?
;)

Why yes.  And she was thrilled that it was made a hit by Mexicans who became German expats.

Meanwhile, BOS3 to the Four Tops, second time I've heard this today (first was on Micky Dolenz's oldies morning show).

BOS2: Los Bravos, "Black Is Black."  Always loved Mike Kennedy's wail.  Anyone else here ever hear his solo single "Louisiana"?  Stunning shoulda-been-a-hit.

That's an even bigger stretch ...

You don't say.

This was a very interesting piece.  Was amused by this quote:

Quote
Those 1,400 or so people (of which I'm one) cast votes for our favorite albums and singles of the year, awarding points that are tabulated by some poor sap who must really want to get in good with the Voice music staff.

About 10 or so such saps, actually.

Amazed that MTV took interest in this article.  But it does nicely summarize the perceived drawbacks of the poll.  HOWEVER -- I can categorically state that Loretta Lynn did not win the Top Album nod.  I won't divulge the winners, but I will say that (a) the #1 album did not appear on my list at all (I only liked one of the four songs I heard on it); and (b) the top single came from my #1 album, but it wasn't the song I picked as my #1 single.

(P.S.  Internet connection is fixed.  For now, at least.  We'll see if I can stay tuned in for an hour without choking.)

I love how the station management is pretending it had NO IDEA that this was being broadcast and that they would NEVER CONDONE such behavior.  Naw, those people who put it on the website, those people who passed it along to message boards -- we had no idea MORNING DJs would ever stoop so low.

*sigh*

From a CNN article about Bush's Iraq press conference:

Quote
He said that if he had told the reporters in the room a few years before that the Iraqi people would be voting, "you would look at me like some of you still look at me, with a kind of blank expression."

*shakes head*

*reads Billboard instead*

Very remarkably done!  The only correction is that it's Kim Carnes and Huey Lewis here singing "stand together as one."

At least they're not re-releasing "Voices That Care."  Although now that I think about it, it'd make a great Onion piece to claim that *every charity single ever recorded* will be re-released this weekend for the tsunami victims.

An old friend of mine used to sing that as, "You smell like my cat's butt / You smell like my cat's butt."  I don't think he actually thought that was the lyric, though.

"Sunday monkey no play piano song / play piano song,"

The internet connectivity is too limited here at this building for me to listen to any streaming radio for the foreseeable future, I'm afraid.  I'm told a T1 line is being installed but not for a month.

*sigh*
