In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / Re: Happy Birthday Tinka Cat and Mshray
« on: March 06, 2012, 11:04:39 PM »
Happy Day, Tink and Mshray!  BTW, has anyone heard from Mshray lately?

Let me join the chorus of birthday wishes for TC and 'Shray. Both members in good standing of this little consortium.

Haven't heard a peep from Mark in awhile though. Alicat and he sometimes would connect outside the folder--have you heard anything, A-Cat? I don't think he's posted here since last fall. Hope all is well for him and his family.

Belatedly chiming in:

*chime*

Cheers!

So glad I was around for this set.  Forgot to add a BOS to Glen Campbell.  And hell, one for the MC5 as well.

Finally!  Something for me!
JA

yay!  BOS5.

good one.

Guitar riff reminiscent of Volunteers Of America, no?
Very much so; written around the same time.  Nicky Hopkins on piano, I believe.

BOS3 to "We Can Be Together."  An Airplane bustout?  A major fave either way.  Up against the wall, motherfuckers!

couldn't ID that short song after Temps

Me either, but I liked it.

WOS to "Lay Lady Lay," which hurts my ears.

Chicago "Beginnings"
I was never a fan, but grew to appreciate bass player.

trombon-a-phone for me.

kinda muddy production on some of Chicago's stuff.  Make Me Smile comes to mind as a particularly nateble offender.

Totally agree.

HM to Touching Neil.

WOS Lyle Lovett; nothing personal, I just don't like this kind of music.

Thanks, guys.  I'm still in a state of disbelief.  Like IE said -- can't take life for granted.

So sorry to hear this, SG.

It didn't dawn on me until this afternoon that I walk down the block where that took place (Julien betw 15th & 16th) something like 5 times a week, on the way from BART to my gym.  In broad daylight, but still.

And people in the neighborhood didn't call for help until five hours after they first heard his cries for help. So heartbreaking.

This makes me so angry.  Richard was the nicest guy.  He just posted on my FB a few weeks ago, wishing me well and a Gung Hay Fat Choy.  If someone screams they need help -- even if it's in a dark alley and the person seems disheveled -- DO SOMETHING.  What kind of world do we live in??

My heart's hurting for you.  RIP.

This beat is Technotronic!  Points for rarity, though I only know this as a makeup commercial theme.

Dept of Redundancy Dept: the most annoying pop lyric of the moment is Selena Gomez's "I love you like a love song, baby". Er, really? not like a funeral dirge?

As unnecessarily repetitive phrases go, it's right up there with Patti Austin's immortal "in the heat of heat, your heat is so hot"

That reminds me of childhood memories.

It reminds me of Troy McClure: "I love you like I love Fresca!"

1971, Hour 1: a Joe Simon rarity, "Your Time to Cry" gets a VHMFRA. The Wicked Pickett's "Green Grass" is far from rare but always welcome.

VHM Redeye's "Games" -- Best. CSNY. Imitation. EVAH.  BOS1 the late great Gen'l Johnson & the Chairmen, payin' to da pypah. Ass Joe Mama!

BOS2 Gollum's Jackie Moore's great "Precious Precious".  She's probably better known for her disco comeback "This Time, Baby"

BOS3 and proxy of Gaz, Liz Damon's Orient Express, "!900 Yesterday", which we're luckily catching on one of its few weeks in the 40. The sort of record most stations who carry this show probably dread, but just lovely.

OMFG! BOS4 JB gettin' up, gettin in' etc.  BOS5 Sly's Little Sister. The higher the price, the nicer the nice! Also nice: Henry Mancini, the first of the "Love Story" versions to hit the 40. VHM.

BOS6 one of Bread's rare upbeat numbers.  BOS7 Ray Price. Damn that was an amazing hour.

Ooh, looking forward to this one later.  For now I'm in the '80s countdown, where Cher's tawkin' bout thu FI-yuh in yuh eyes!

Done and done.  I was actually listening to that station last night - wonderful lesser-knowns, though I could do without the '50s material.
