KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 31 March 2016: it's... 2005 (The end of an era)
« on: April 01, 2016, 10:27:03 AM »

Starting promptly at 10pm is an encore of the 1977 show from 24-Mar-16.

Will there be a 10@10 marathon Saturday morning?

ETA: listening and hearing AL's voice during the backsell... I hope she's getting royalties for this!

Doubt it. I don't think Dave ever did.

that's really weird and I have to assume it was a computer error -- if they're trying to erase the airstaff why play old 10@10s?  (note that it was last Thursday's set.)

I think the key phrase is 'computer error', which may be a harbinger of how awful the Devolution will be.

This isn't some horrible April Fool's joke? :(

This question has been posed elsewhere - all I can say is that if it were, it'd be the lamest of 4/1 jokes, a category for which there is stiff competition.

I wonder if there will be any more Live From The Archives CDs after the format change...

My initial thought was "no", but a lot will depend on which way "The Devolvement" goes - if it's remotely AAA, there's a chance it could continue. Keep the call letters but dismiss the people underlying it - corporatism at its worst.

per 'snipeville, AL said at a gathering over the weekend that they were getting a "new boss" this week.  This does not sound good.

I turned on KFOG (apx 10:35) and after a bunch of commercials I got that "Evolution" promo followed by music.

Interestingly, NoName has been absent the last couple of days but neither Renee nor Greg said where he was.
Oy, sounds very bad.

But, as I also pointed out in G-ville, the "End of KFOG as we know it" has been predicted a few times before. Somehow it's survived so far... let's hope...

I went out on a minor limb and requested "Kids With Guns". AL told me last Saturday that the only Gorillaz song the KFOG library has is "Feel Good Inc.", so that tells us a number of things.

BOS Liz Phair - that's a song (and album) that made me feel good about 1994 music. Both in 1994 and 2016.

Is this Kirstie Maccoll? Serious disco electronica freakout.

ETA: It's Chumbawumba - Amnesia. NTM.

BOS for me. And I'm sure this is a bustout. Personally I find it oodles more enjoyable than "Tubthumping".

FMac get it up for love, or something.  another serious FF.
Stevie and Lindsey really need to get a room on that one.

This was especially fun to listen to when you're 16.

WOS Billy Idol, one I never need to hear again.
No FRA qualification? I'm not sure I've ever heard this one before. I'll grant you it isn't very good, but it's certainly out of the ordinary.

ETA: Sax sounds kinda Keysian. I wonder if it's him. (A bit Boss-like too)
ETAM: It's Mars Williams, apparently.

"Eyes Without A Face"?

EDIT: Guess not. "Catch My Fall" I suppose is one of his second tier hits. Not one I hear all the time.

No. 1 appears to be a bust-out.

And, IMHO, a great TOTHK

8. Letters to Cleo - Here and Now

One more in the rarity column. Another that conjures up mid-90s.

(Always thought the chorus on this one was borrowed from the Blues Bros.' Rubber Biscuit.)

uber-BOS

I guess there are just a lot of musicians in that age group and the actuarial curve is catching up with them.

Yep, that's pretty much what's going on.

Still, these weekly passings are kind of unsettling.

Absolutely it is, particularly when the cause of death for people of the same age group being listed as 'natural causes'.

Is this part of the aging process, seeing your heroes and admired artists all fall away?

I think the irony of all this is that, on the whole, celebrities are probably living longer than they ever have before. But we're catching up...

Tue 2/2/16: Groundhog Day

1. All Night Long/Lionel Richie
2. All Night Long/Joe Walsh
3. Holiday/Madonna
4. Holiday/Green Day
5. Gloria/Laura Branigan
6. Gloria/Them
7. Jump/Pointer Sisters
8. Jump/Van Halen
9. Fire/Ohio Players
10. Fire/Jimi Hendrix

Heh. To show how some things never change, the Pointer Sisters tune was subtitled "For Your Love" for any idiot who couldn't distinguish their hit from the Van Halen song.

3. To Be A Lover – Billy Idol (initially a Memphis Soul Classic in 1968 by Booker T. Jones and William Bell)

I did not know that. Just listened via Youtube - to put it politely, the resemblance is scant.
