KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 5 Jan 2016: it's... Bottle Rock preview

Nos. 1, 4, 5,  and 6 appear to be bust-outs.

Somewhat surprised that the RHCPs tune is a bustout, but I guess it's their cover of "Higher Ground" that has gotten 10@10 love. (and given the Stevie connection, might've made more sense today)

From "The Beavis And Butthead" soundtrack, no less. One I actually did see in the theater!

Once again we're getting songs that show up on 10@10 but not in regular rotay...

Which resulted in the odd coincidence of hearing the Hooters twice in an hour: "All You Zombies" and "And We Danced"

Not that KFOG would ever play her in this context, but on our 2015 road trip, where I had my iPOD loaded alphabetically, we heard Neneh Cherry's "Buddy X" followed by her "Buffalo Stance".... 20,000 total songs, only about 25 of which are from Cherry - what are the chances?

I've been wondering about the SW blitz this week on 10@10

I'd use the word 'shilling' instead of 'blitz', but yeah, KFOG's behavior over the release has been at best embarrassing.

I think the Star War franchise has many positive characteristics, but like The Simpsons, its sponsors will evidently stop at nothing when it comes to promotion.

an underwhelming request thread so far -- including one guy who requested 3 songs from 1992 or thereabouts. Ooops.

Just read thru it and was amazed at the number of people who missed one or more parts of the concept.

After my requests, I realized they were supposed to be covers (or at least 'heavily influenced'). I could've reposted, but opted against it (actually "She Wants Me" very possibly could've passed for Nirvana in their prime, so that's something).

I don't need to read/hear/see anything regarding Star Wars for the rest of my life.

Well, I could do without all the hype and the commercial tie-ins and Star Wars themed 10@10 weeks, but I *will* need to see the movie.

Eventually, anyway.  After Christmas.  Unless it gets really awful reviews.  But I expect that won't be the case with JJ Abrams at the helm.

Yeah. I get that the movie will be good. Just don't need to be reminded every second.

AL has posted her hint/request solicitation already.

Nice that request threads are making a comeback.  I really hope that we're not going to get our second 2005 set in 2 weeks; I'm thinking maybe an outer-space themed set for Fri instead?

Well, we've had 1999 and now 1980. Presumably 1977 will appear, with of course Meco. 1982 and 2002 to fill out the week makes sense (with 77 being Friday).

Between you and me and whoever else is paying attention, I don't need to read/hear/see anything regarding Star Wars for the rest of my life.

I suspect most of the bright lights in advertising agencies these days weren't even born in the
'60s, so the emotional resonance these songs have for those of us approaching geezerdom is
largely absent.  I'd guess they just think it's a cool old song with a snippet of words that fits in
with their impressionistic video collage.  They probably never considered the discordant reality of
Janis' romantic failures and her tragic early death.

Exactly. Same reason they used an Allman Bros song for motorcycle insurance, oblivious to the circumstances of Duane's death.

My personal favorite is David Bowie's "Heroes" for Microsoft.

KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 4 Dec 2015: Scott Weiland RIP --10 STP tunes
« on: December 04, 2015, 08:54:22 PM »
Scott Weiland/STP - they were what they were, which in my book was decent enough. I wonder if this idea will get be repeated if someone similar passes.

I often wondered how the second half of the 1990's would have gone if it had been Weiland who had died instead of Kurt Cobain. Now their paths have evidently crossed.

KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 3 Dec 2015: it's... OMFG, our first 2005 set!
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:40:15 AM »
I'll suggest that there is no chance we'll hear "My Humps" or "Gold Digger". Green Day, Lifehouse, the Killers and Weezer are the most likely on this list. If Stefani gets played, I'd guess it'd be "Cool".

"Daughters" had more or less run its course by the end of 2004, no?

I'm racking my brain to come up with AAA-specific 2005 tracks.

I'll bet a nickel we'll hear the Foos' "Best Of You".

Other possibilities: Beck's "E-Pro" or "Girl", Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc.", Franz Ferdinand's "Do You Want To", Rob Thomas' "Lonely No More", Coldplay's "Speed Of Sound", James Blunt's "You're Beautiful".

I'm going to have to catch this tonight. Warriors, please finish by 10PM. Otherwise I'll have to check it out on the cloud. Or I suppose I could DVR it. Or wait til Saturday, when with my luck it'll appear at 6AM.

Nos. 2, 4, 5, 7,  and 9 appear to be bust-outs.

It does seem that we've been getting more of these lately. Never really minded an LN or two as long as we get some new blood (and, one might argue, an LN might even be ironically necessary, in order to 'ground' a set).

Most interesting are the LN/no appearances

Van the Man's "Brown-Eyed Girl" has apparently never appeared (at least as far as our records show) and it's one of the most-played oldies in radio history, so that would be LN to me.

There must be a name for this phenomenon - the well-past-the-expiration-date "breaking news" story.

I'm sure a few of you thought he was already dead...

Of course, I thought he'd been dead before that.
