I'd love to believe this is finally the day Dave will play "Buffalo Stance", "Walk the Dinosaur" and "Bust a Move"... but after last night's A's game my optimism is running on empty.

I gotta drive to Roseville & back for the rest of the day.  Have as much fun as you possibly can, I'll be listening in the car.

if Dave pulls out half as many '89 surprises as Ginger did for '88...

Nah. Never happen.

Mmm, boy, there's some big fun for ya. Wishing you a minimal amount of traffic. At least it probably won't be 100+ up there.

Decent opener, Michael Penn. Whom I often mentally group with Sam Philips, pop-oriented singer-songwriters from the late 80s.

Don't think I've heard this song before.  Not typical Penn, I'd say.

at least it's not "No Myth".  As such it may be the closest Dave comes to a surprise.

It's all sounding "new" to me. I missed much of the 80's fare.

EARTHQUAKE!!

All I wanted was for baseball to continue. That was before knowing about the devastation that resulted from said shaker.

I have a very clear memory of exactly where I was at the time.

Huge "Bleah" for "End of the Innocence".  The worst of Bruce Yawnsby and Don Henley (Must Die) in one song.

Just a teensy one.  It's funny though, that I like Bruce now.  His music has gotten better and I have the "Harbor Lights" CD that I really like.

HM to the Henley/Hornsby tune, a guilty pleasure.

On the other hand, I'll give a "bleah" to the Chris Rea tune (WUK! WUK! WUK!)--never thought much of it, but it's an 89 Katrina, as much as FYC are.

I was in a one story building trying to keep a $50K computer from falling on the ground. After it got violent, I gave up and headed for the doorway.

indeed, I'd've preferred Mr Rea's "Let's Dance" which I heard on CG the other day. VHM Love & Rockets, also a Katrina at this point -- as are the Wilburys.  Surely KFOG had more than 20 songs on its current playlist in '89?

"too little, too late, and too many excuses as to why they couldn't do the job..."

Dave finds another timeless clip.

VHM da Stones, "Between a Rock and an Oil Spill".

And just to drive the point home a little more, Thing Called Love.

Much as I like Hiatt and respect Bonnie, I could go a good decade without hearing this song and it would be just fine by me.

Indeed, and I remember how fresh it seemed then and how thrilled I was to see Bonnie finally getting her due.  But sheesh.
