Title: KPOO etc week of 10/22/12
Post by: Tinka Cat on October 23, 2012, 07:28:30 AM
KPOO JJ's music from the 70s!

Uh, oh... Here come the hippes.  Temptations are squatting in their very own Psychedelic Shack....

"Take off ya shoes sit on the floor....
You can have your fortune told, you can learn the meaning of soul..
psychedelic shack, that's where it's at."

Mike is right, it's lame-o.

Hee. Aside from the word "psychedelic", they're describing a beatnik coffee house in 1958.

OMFG: The Natural Four, "Can this Be Real".

This King Floyd tune is NTM.

DAYUM! WDAS plays Ann Peebles doing "Come to Mama" -- yes, the same song Bob Seger did as "Come to Papa". I never knew there was a distaff version. Willie Mitchell sure could write 'em.

I've been listening to WDAS since Jan of this year... I've not really had any complaints about repetition of songs but the tune that is far and away their biggest LN/Katrina is -- off all things -- "Love Jones" by Brighter Side of Darkness. Good gawd. And they play the looooong version too.

2NG counts down Oct 1981 -- Gary Glitter's cover of "And Then (S)he Kissed Me"

Holy crap: the orig version of what we baseball fans know as "the chicken dance": "The Original Bird Dance" by Electronicas.

wow: OMD, "Maid of Orleans"

NTM: Scottish punksters The Exploited with "Dead Cities"

ooo! Barry Manilow's underrated cover of "Let's Hang On" -- a top 15 hit in the UK.

I never liked Adam Ant's "Prince Charming" -- I'm astounded to learn it was a UK #1... or "Prince char-MING" as he pronounces it.

yay DM, "Just Can't Get Enuf"!  And here's Bad Manners with lead singer Buster Bloodvessel -- per Wiki "Buster struggled with morbid obesity and underwent laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery in 2004, his weight dropping from 31 stone to 13 stone. He once owned a hotel in Margate called Fatty Towers, which specifically catered for larger customers, with features such as extra large beds and baths as well as fatty meals. The hotel closed in 1998"

Elvis C's George Jones  cover is always a treat.

OMFG: the Jam's "Absolute Beginners" (NOT the Bowie tune) is utterly fab and never gets played. Ditto Human League, "Open Your Heart" (NOT the Madonna tune).

OMGWTFLOL: Laurie Anderson's wonderfully odd "O Superman", and the equally strange cover of "It's My Party" by Dave Stewart (not the Eurythmics guy) & Barbara Gaskin. That was an amazingly good chart.

wow, Laurie Anderson's O Superman at number 2!

The song they played before the Tweets' Birdie song, the female singer, soaring & anthemic. What was that?  I missed his back-announcement.

ETA: Found it:
Toyah - Thunder In The Mountains

wowza! a combo of Nina Hagen, The Darkness, Rocky Horror, and Mad Max!

Soma-FM's "Xmas in Frisko" channel is back. And not a moment too soon.

"Walkin' 'Round in Women's Under-wear" -- always a treat to start the season.

yes, Dave Thomas' voice is killer.  :)

But seriously, that is easily Geddy's best vocal evah.  It really should be in the K-FOX rotation.
