Title: KPOO etc week of 2/20/12
Post by: RGMike on February 20, 2012, 10:12:45 AM
a rare opportunity to listen to my buddy Brian Bannon on 'LNG.  He dedicated a twin-spin of "California Soul" (5-D version) and "Tarzan Boy" to me.  It's nice to be famous somewhere.

holy crap! 'LNG just played the 'oo covering "Under My Thumb"!  NTM -- it was a UK 45 and was finally released as one of many extras on the CD reissue of Odds'n'Sods.

once again, WDAS unearths a gem: the O'Jays' orig version of "Now That We've Found Love", later immortalized by Third World's reggaefied cover.

JJ on KPOO just played the hit cover version of Gil Scott-Heron's "The Bottle", by Brother to Brother -- it actually charted Pop (#46)  and was a Top Ten R&B single in 1974.  Sadly, it's out of print.

Lawd! The Mighty Hannibal's "The Truth Shall Make You Free" -- an anti-drug hit from '73 that's much better than JB's "King Heroin".
