Title: week of 8/1 - 8/5
Post by: RGMike on August 03, 2005, 02:51:52 PM
seems every day this week I've heard something I haven't heard in ages. Earlier today one of my Classic Country stations played Ray Stevens' "Misty", and now on WLNG it's "Shame Shame" by the Magic Lanterns -- the only record I ever saw score a 98 on American Bandstand's Rate-A-Record!

You've mentioned the AB stat before, and it's got me curious: What are the other top-ranked records that you can recall?  Conversely, what were the lowest-ranked?

Just heard a request for "The Congregation," "Softly Whispering I Love You."  I'd nearly forgot about the naming convention (they added the "English," I speculated, to avoid confusion with Mike Curb's Congregation).

To be honest I have little memory of other high/lows. I watched AB primarily in the summers of '68 and '69 and since most records got very average scores, the 98 for the MLs (an average of a 97 and a 99 I seem to recall) really stood out. Surely some geek somewhere on the internet has a page devoted to AB Rate-A-Record.

CG plays the orig Hot Choc version of "Brother Louie", which I've maybe heard once before.  A bit grittier than the Stories cover.

And in the spirit of going full circle, Mike Sweeney just played the Canned Heat version of Let's Work Together. I liked the one this am better, just cuz I haven't heard it nearly as much.

Damn - I haven't thought about Fuzio's in a few years!  When I lived near Dolores Park, I *loved* that place.

I'm hungry.  And New York food sucks if you spend under $10 (no disrespect to the Gray's Papaya, it's just not my thing).

Have a good weekend, y'alls!

Has NYC discovered how to make a decent burrito?  Back in '89/'90 there was a burrito place in your 'hood (Greenwich ave between 7th & 8th Aves) that called itself "San Francisco Cal-Mex Cuisine" or somesuch.  I noticed in Nov that it was gone.

Elephant & Castle is still a fave of mine -- fab omelettes and burgers.

Funny you should ask, I've been having this conversation with my Voice copy edit colleagues for the past two weeks.  I broke down and ordered one today -- feh and fie.  I'll stick with the divey Chinese while I'm in Gotham, thx.
