No clues on FB as of 9am; hope AL's finally recovered. She hinted Friday at something Jerry G's Birthday-related; whether that's a theme set or just a Dead-active year is not clear.
ETA: the lady returns!

Beautiful Day U2
great song, not a Jerry Garcia day

BOS U2 Has it really been ten years? For some reason I thought this song was '03ish

at one point, during the Morey era, 9 years was the standard for a while. But generally it's been 10. I'm guessing DC wants it to be more like 5 or 6.
Hoping AL goes easy on the 9/11 clips...
WOS "Life on a Chain" -- never liked this one much.

No sooner than 10 years ago - I think that would make all them equal. We hit the present minus 10 every year.

for those of you scoring at home, 2nd song (according to Shazam) was "Life on a Chain" by Pete Yorn
KFOG identifies #3 as Middle by Jimmy Eat World
-
BOS Royal Tenenbaums, one of my favorite movies ever.
VHM Jimmy Eat World -- one of those songs KFOG let Live 105 play for 6 months before finally jumping in and playing it to death for another 6.
BOS2 Cake.
-
#4 Cake, Short Skirt Long Jacket
A sign of how 'normal' these songs are: they're showing up in the streaming list on kfog.com

are you implying that we're too old to identify these tunes? ;)
Very 2001-KFOG-playlist so far.

WOS Jimmy Eat World. What a dumb, dumb song. "Do your best / Do everything you can." It's like eating a big bowl of air.

I've heard these songs before, but can't identify them accurately, so I'm looking for backup.

jeezus, Jack Johnson's been annoying us for 10 years already? How time files. WOS2

I had no idea of #5, outside of it sounds like Jack Johnson
looks like Brushfire Fairytales. It's not ID'ed on the KFOG streamer.

#6 Drops of Jupiter, Train

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! uber-WOS3 Train.

Not liking this set one bit. Time to write that letter...

Weezer BOS by a mile!
was KFOG playing this in 2001? I don't recall them giving it much love.
-
"amber is the color of your energy"?
(311, apparently)
Luce was inevitable.
-
Ha! first post-set song: Dave Matthews.
I would've expected his duet with Angelique whats-her-name in a 2001 set. Or that Peter Gabriel world-music collab.
-
first time for this year...? How soon before we start hearing sets from, say, "April 2011?"
I listened hear and there. The song stylings of that second track seems very self-conscious, can't explain it, but it fits as a pairing w The Royal Tannenbaums, as Wes Anderson's style is also self-conscious.
I like Luce's voice. ..and I used to like that Train song, but the more I see/hear of Pat and his bandmates, the less I like it.

someone on FB requests an "All Jerry" 10@10 sometime this week, ideally Friday.
It *would* make sense, as it's "local scene" month, his B-day was today and his death-day is coming up. Good luck with that, bub.
-
Ok, I was probably the only one excited at the idea of 2001, but most unnecessary of set = THE ENTIRE DAMN SET >:( >:( >:( except for maybe Pete Yorn & David Byrne. I think the JJ song was on AL's 2000-2009. But srly this wuz lk an underpar KFOG sample hr, zOMG ::)
I also like how she stuck the final single off of U2's ATYCLB, "In a Little While," in 2000, but put the first single, "Beautiful Day" in 2001... :P
Re: Train. Yes. I too liked most of their stuff, until they blew it with Calling All Angels. Now I hate everything by them.
A better set would have been:
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Afro-Celt Sound System ft. Peter Gabriel - When You're Falling
Pete Yorn - Life in a Chain
Delerium ft. Sarah McLachlan - Silence
David Gray - Please Forgive Me
Darude - Sandstorm
Poe - Hey Pretty
Dexter Freebish - Leaving Town
Josh Joplin Group - Camera One
Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag
-

Afro-Celt Sound System ft. Peter Gabriel - When You're Falling
thanks, that was the PG/world music thing I couldn't think of. I'll always associate it with that year because it ended up on that "songs not to play after 9/11" list that Clear Channel put out.
AL did play the Pete Yorn you mentioned (I WOSed it -- that filter his voice goes thru always struck me as way too gimmicky)
And yes, it was a totally KFOG-playlist-centric set, as I suspect DC dictates for anything post-1990. AL really needs to play some Britney Spears.

I'd love to hear it, probably next Tuesday would be the best day (end of 'Jerry Week') but I can't see the PD letting it happen.

I *could* envision an all-local set on Friday (the Morning show is kicking off "live'n'local" month) with local artists spanning the decades and including one Dead or Jerry solo track.

True about her playing Pete Yorn. I don't mind the gimmicky sounding voice because I think it works in the song (i.e. both his voice and the music sound like they're scratchy in the same ways), less so in some other songs by him. I still listed it because that one (along with the Afro-Celt Sound System & Josh Joplin Group) are pretty quintessentally AAA circa 2001 -- which was about the time I REALLY started getting into AAA. Instead we got a pretty lame almost entirely Hot AC-leaning sample hour except for DB & PY. Kind of a running theme for many late 90s sets, but I was hoping the first visit to 2001 wouldn't succumb to that. Unfortunately it did, though 2000 wasn't bad.
Yes, I would LOVE her to play some Britney Spears! I was mad that she cut off "Lucky" at the end of the Lucky 13 set.

Yeah, I have to say I'm kind of disappointed... this really is a KFOG-ish set from that year, even if they didn't touch "The Middle" until the following year. "Drops Of Jupiter" gets way too much airplay to ever appear on a 10@10. Jack Johnson bores me, whereas the only reason I'm not as bored by Pete Yorn is that he hasn't been quite as prolific as Johnson.
If need be, I'll BOS "Good Day".
