The Boardwalk digs out the 5-D's little-heard "Blowin' Away". Nice.

JJ's "WTF" track of the day: Don Julian's "Shorty the Pimp", NTM. Sandwiched between Sly's "Time For Livin" and Lyn Collins' seminal "Think".

Lawd! Dyke & the Blazers' gritty take on "You Are My Sunshine". and it's the beginning of Funky Nassau's end. Miniskirts, maxiskirts and afro hair-DO!

And you thought Fogheads were dense, part XLVII: a guy called The Boardwalk's request show becasue he wanted to hear "Roll With It" by Lee Greenwood. The DJ had to explain it was Steve WINwood who does that song.  God Bless the USA indeed.

a Classic Country morning for me. And I get the only Donna Fargo song I ever liked, "You Can't Be a Beacon (If Your Light Don't Shine)"

AtlanticOldies2NG dredges up Aswad's lovely "Don't Turn Around", an Albert Hammond/Diane Warren collab (!) that went #1 in the UK and did nothing here until Ace of Base covered it some years later.

and now their retro-chart show is doing June 1956 (!) which is rather fascinating (and fairly rock-free). Not one but two songs from the movie Carousel -- no wonder Mark Knopfler liked Rogers & Hammerstein.

Listening to Peter Young's Jazz-FM podcast -- he's saluting Bobby Womack this week. "Girl, you're welcome, stop on by" indeed!

http://www.jazzfm.com/listening/

OMFG: he just played an unreleased duet of Billy Preston's "with You I'm Born Again" -- Bobby W with Teena Marie!  *swoon*

ETA: the salute continues with others covering BW: Ree-Ree doing "That's the Way I Feel About'cha" (NTM) and a fine version of "A Woman's Gotta Have it" by Trudy Lynn (?). And here's Janis Joplin, "Trust Me" which I haven't heard in decades and never knew was a BW compo.
