Oh, I dunno.  I've always liked "The Voice."  The opening for some reason made me think it was "We Are the World" and we were getting a special-event set.  Yikes.

Was expecting '90s today, though.

off to a meeting -- I may miss most of this. I guess there's some Styx involved, huh?

Glad I'm sticking with my Robin trower on DDT for the time being.

Probably got to meet a customer in a few minutes, so might not hear this set at all.

Styx: Big flashback to 81. I think this was a main song at my prom. Best of times might have been the theme.

"Tonight's the night we make history / Honey, you and I"

Doesn't get any cornier, children.  But I like it.

Any, any chance on earth of hearing Marty Balin's "Hearts" today?  It was a Top 10 hit but Dave's never played it since I've been listening (10 years as of next September!).

I think Styx may have been very big among prom theme songs. Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, stuff like that. I wonder if any school ever used Renegade for their prom theme? ;-)

hello, it's the 80s.  With very few exceptions, it was a corny decade, people.  Who took any music seriously? Enjoy it for what it was...

If you're reading, please feel free to axe that other Topic I started for today's set. We certainly don't need two, and this one seems to be getting the traffic.

Although I'm still wondering when we're going to hit 1996. Good chance tomorrow, I am thinking.

Yep, it had its moments, although it paled in comparison to yesterday's superb offering. I dug the Reagan shooting announcement that Dave played over the end of Controversy, and I admit kind of digging the Joe Walsh tune, in a flashback sort of way.

does the position on your ATPT40 equal the top chart position of the song for its release year?

should we have an area devoted just to lists?  I don't have any, but a lot of you do.

Well, the first topic of the day should have some generic title like the date in it, so people can find the thread later.  I won't be around to do this a lot while I'm at school, so y'all better get it right the first time!

bah. too much order. plus anyone can figure out the date of the thread, especially since we're following the "thread a day" rule quite well.

anyway, the original post title contained today's date and the year. so what if 'january' was spelled in dutch? it adds a little karakter. a little flavor.

please don't edit my posts! :) a czj avatar is greatly appreciated, but don't edit my text. if we start that, mshray is bound to go red pencil crazy on beej's posts.

No problem.  I had asked someone the same question yesterday, and was told to proceed.  I guess I thought I was just being janitorial, not dictatorial.  But how was it spelled?  I can put it back.  Can you edit your own posts anyway?

This brings up a good question.  I will be very busy starting next week until June, and have no desire to be a big nazi around here.  If you guys like staying here for a while, no problem.  I can give moderator tools to anyone who wants them, and it probably would be a good idea for each topic to have a moderator besides me, or more than one!

Actually I could see the need for someone to hold that title, not necessarily to moderate, but just to handle some of the administrative stuff that not all of us would have the capacity to do.

I'd volunteer, but there are times when I can't check in here for several hours (or a day or so) at a time, so not sure how viable I'd be in that role. And I think Rod's paid his administrative dues, unless he wants to continue in that capacity. Anyone else care to step up?

Well, like I said earlier, it's mainly janitorial.  Sometimes I fix broken code if I think it's easy.  There's always the possibility that someone on the outside can come in and make a bunch of spam posts that need to be deleted, but that would probably be pretty rare; I don't remember seeing any on the discserver board.  Another moderation tool is to move a topic to a different category, if it seems misplaced.  Quite frankly, now that I know you can edit your own posts, that's a load off my mind.  In the future, I'll just get mshray to rag on those of you who start the daily thread and don't mark it clearly enough!

Once bitten, twice shy!

So, Urth, which topic would you like to voluteer for?

OK, I'll take the KFOG 10@10 topic. If need be, I could probably grab another but I don't wanna be greedy.

OK, you're on.  Check it out; I don't really know what you can do, but you'll find out.  It took me a while to find where to go, but now that I know it's easy.  So if anyone else wants to volunteer for janitorial work, just let me know.  I'll be at Washington High School Friday morning at 7:15 AM, so you won't see me here until the afternoon.
