Post by: Gazoo on May 27, 2005, 10:53:10 AM
Tuned in pre-SS and heard Steely Dan's "Haitian Divorce" and Billy Idol's corny-as-fuck "Hot in the City" within minutes of each other.  Now that's programming with personality!

I hope they enjoy their media shout-out from across the pond.

No - I was skittish about the self-promotion angle.

Why on earth did Womack just name-drop Kentucky Fried Chicken?!

Woo-hoo!  Thanks!  Hard to think of Hot Fun In The Summertime when it's still below 80 degrees here, though.

Sorry that Greg made it sound like I personally lobbied the Voice to run a blurb.  I did mention your name in my email...

BohannonBohannonBohannon.... "Disco Stomp" -- I don't think that one ever got any US airplay.  Is that like the Bristol Stomp?

Yay for my favorite War song, the criminally forgotten "Galaxy."

Seriously?

These lyrics are way worse than "Sometimes I don't speak right..."

Good beat, I give it a 75.

OMG "Walking on Sunshine" -- NOT the Katrina song.  This and the earlier "Mama Used to Say" were early '80s WBLS staples. I'm being transported in time.

Always a pleasure to hear Stevie's "As" -- except when it gets cut off just before it starts REALLY cooking.

I don't think the lyrics were meant for much beyond playground double-dutch.  I treat it purely as a dance track, and that piano groove just floors me.

The Brits love '80s Kool & the Gang far more than we Americans do.  This is the only place I've heard "Misled" in the past 18 years.  Heavy as a Chevy, indeed.

Smokey's "Goin' to a Go-Go".

"it doesn't matter if you go drag."

well, it does in SF and Chelsea.

"Ghetto Child"  -- fab lyric, and shoulda been a bigger hit here (it went top ten in the UK).

Ooh, a Philly twin-spin: "You Make Me Feel Brand New" followed by "Ghetto Child."  I miss socially-conscious chart hits.

OMGWTFLOL!  J-5 "Lookin thru the Windows". A personal fave. I was crushed when this wasn't a bigger hit.

Methinks the strings and arrangement borrowed a little too brazenly from those of "Never Can Say Goodbye" for their own good.  A fine tune, though.
