Title: La radio de Sebb
Post by: princessofcairo on December 16, 2009, 08:15:14 AM
Found a good French station today: http://www.laradiodesebb.com/

Great soul music! I'm listening to Lee Dorsey's version of "Yes We Can Can" now. Earlier today I heard Latimore's "There's A Redneck In The Soul Band" for the first time. Funky!

OMG! the Tavares version of "More Than a Woman"!  princess, this is my new favorite station. It's like CGSS with French announcers!

And they have a show described thusly: "Un titre à écouter en deux versions différentes (reprise ou sample)" which I take to mean that they play the original and then a cover version of the same song?  Awesome!

Yeah! I'm glad you like it. They've been keeping me good company today.

OMG, the covers show is on now -- someone sounding like Charo is doing "Let's Spend the Nite Together". Cuchi-cuchi!

the cover wasn't that much diff -- it was by some diva or other (Martha Wash?); the orig was by Carl Bean who fancied himself something of a diva anyway.

Well, he certainly fancied himself!
It sounded a bit too...dry to be Martha Wash.
Look! Joe Cocker sings "Every Kind of People"!

"Am I The same Girl?" (aka "Soulful Strut")!  Dusty's version vs. Swingout Sister's fab cover. No love for Barbara Acklin in France, I guess.  Still, this one's the highlight of my day.

I'm so glad you posted that. I kept trying to sing "Why do you use me, just to abuse me?" ("It's a Shame") into the lyrics, while simultaneously hearing a piano play the melody.

I suppose pop music has always sounded similar to itself. But I'd take an "It's a Shame, Same Girl" over this Black-eyed Shakira GaGa mess anyday.

Damn! this slowed-down cover of Yaz's "Don't Go" by Nouvelle Vague is NTM and totally fab.

I really wish Gaz were here -- now we're gonna hear the 5th Dimension doing "Ticket to Ride"!  I can tell this will be my regular lunchtime listening from now on.

And I just realized the website has the full title/artist info while the player cuts it off

Everybody samba! Love the George Benson-esque guitar. If "smooth jazz" stations had played stuff like this, the format wouldn't be dead.

You have Nathan East and Boney James to blame for that. :)

The ultimate! Tavares vs. the BeeGees on "More Than a Woman".

Followed by Ree-Ree vs Jimmy Somerville doing "It Ain't Necessarily So". Most impressive.

OK, when did No Doubt cover "Love To Love You Baby"? More to the point: WHY? Speaking of blasphemy!

Go ahead, take away my Gay Card: I really hate Gwen Stefani.

I missed that one, too. Rather pointless. And feels like the drummer is having troubles keeping up.

oh those French: Radio de Sebb plays Miss Ross' lovely "I'm Still Waiting", a huge hit in Europe that sadly did little on these shores.
