I can't stand the rain! Love every version I've ever heard.
What a great day.

I thought he was saying a sequined phone, like a cell.
mmmm, I'd like to see someone in a sequined thong. Could be a bit uncomfy I suppose.

Who could help not be in a good mood with this music? I still feel a bit foul I suppose. Tired of where I am, no news yet about the future. I was getting quotes this morning for insurance for me and family from Blue Cross. Pay so much to get so little. I'm quite confused about annual deductible and out of pockets and maximums. aaarrrghhhhh.
I emailed the potential employer with a salary request and start day and I'm waiting to hear.
TEDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!   :D :D

I once dreamt I was gathered 'round an upright piano with Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres singing this song. No need to examine that one for meaning. This was one of the songs I first learned to program in diner-top jukeboxes in 1976 or 1977, along with "Love Will Keep Us Together" -- as I just happened to be telling someone at my 12:00 lunch meeting. (I left out the Rosie & Ellen deets.)

BABY!
My heart is full of love and it's
ALL FOR YOU!
a little tit-for-tat pedantry: the line is actually
"my heart is full of love and desire for you"
-
oh, Mr Withers -- it IS a lovely day...
-
BOSS (Best Of Soul Spectrum) goes to Bill Withers and "It's Gonna Be a Lovely Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay" (hold that "a" for 14 seconds).
But I admit I actually prefer the early '90s knockoff version by S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. featuring Michelle Visage, enough so that I actually bothered to put those obnoxious periods and caps in their name.

Really? I've been hearing it wrong all these years? Ack!

shoobedoobedoobedoop bop bop!
Sister Sledge, "Mama Never Told Me", another of their fine UK hits.

They sounded troublingly like Michael Jackson on that one.
And now Loofa samples the "Good Times" lick? How old is this one?
-
Oy, come back from lunch in time for Whitters, "Greatest Sludge of All". Ack.
-
You know, in hindsight, Whitney's "Greatest Love" doesn't sound so oversung after all. At least, not compared to what we heard in the ensuing 20 years (can you believe her debut's that old?).
-
WOOO! Gloria reaches out! (I have a re-recorded version of this that sounds even better, surprisingly enough.)
-
Reach out, I'll be there; Gloria Gaynor. Never heard her do this.

which is a sad sad comment on where we're at. What hath American Idol wrought?
But Ms Gaynor reaches out and everytrhing's suddenly better.

Yo, DJ! Stop drooling over the songs you're playing! Let the girl finish!
-
Another lost gem: Chairmen of the Board, "Everything's Tuesday." A tribute to Ms. Weld?
-
Condi and Olive Oyl? Who woulda thunk? Hopefully no one but Greg.

General Johnson likes him some white ladies!

I think the DJ's drunk today.

Cool, he can trade notes with Rex Chapman on black & white cookies while Condi hums a Lemon Pipers tune.

Summoning the Princess of Cairo! It's the Commodores' "Machine Gun"!!!

getcha back up off da wall!
K&TG, "Get Down On It". Get down on... what, exactly?

On the ONE, I should think. A very nice job of taking the Parliament formula of repeating chants in various permutations, and putting a glossy sheen on it.

Q: When are crackers crazy?
A: When they send stupid jokes to disc jockeys.

COOO-BA! It's not just for Dave anymore.

crazy homeless black guy walked past me last nite on Valencia and said (to no one inparticular): "Don't you look at me, cracker -- 'less you wanna DIE!"

"Funkin 4 Jamaica" -- yay for pop songs about my home borough of Queens. Off the top o' me head, there's this one, and "Me & Julio", which mentions Corona.
-
Just got job offer via email!!! Going to accept but forcing myself to wait a bit before emailing back.
-
Understewed but still enjoyable Gap Band, "Why You Wanna Hurt Me." The masters of hitting it on the one.
Edited to correct title: it's "Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)," according to the DJ and my Gap 12" comp.

There's also LL Cool J's "Hey Lover": "I represent Queens, she was raised out in Brooklyn."

"On My Own" -- paging poc again. Gaz, does this get 1/2 a WOSS for Mr McD or 1/2 a BOSS for Ms LaBelle?
-
OMGWTF! Karyn White, "Superwoman".
Get that dinner on the table, beeyotch!
-
Greg just said someone named Mike in SF asked for Stevie Wonder or Tina Turner -- it wasn't me!
What were the odds?

Zero. I asked for Stevie and Tina and said to make a shout out to you.
Maybe he was a bit tipsy today.

I should have known you'd ask. MM sounds good on this, but what amazed me was that, after not hearing this but once or twice in the past 10+ years, I still knew Ms. LaBelle's fills over the coda ("I never dreamed I'd spend one night alone") by heart. Apparently I can lip-synch this more effectively than I've ever wanted to.

Thanks, Ali! He DID sound rather, um, happy today.
