The radio must be a good minute or two ahead of the stream--you had this posted when Annalisa was just starting her intro. Hoping she can redeem herself for yesterday.

Btw, I think this is Sweet Jane.

I always liked Robert Palmer, but his version of Sailin' Shoes seemed like such an homage, I get confused.  The Lowell George vocal treatments are spot on.

Whoa! Another BOS from yours truly. One of my fave GD songs, Scarlet Begoninas!

I should explain the intentional misspelling. For years, From the Mars Hotel, the album Scarlet Begonias was released on was out of print. In the mid-80s, it got the Mobile Fidelity half-speed mastering treatment, and that was the only way you could get a copy. But when it came out, Begonias was misspelled "Begoninas." So among me and my deadhead pals, this song was always "Scarlet Begoninas."

I guess ya hadda be there.

Oh, Double Snap!

what actor played a murderer in 4 different episodes?

wow, Jerry really can carry a tune!   :P

this sounds good -- uh oh ...  is that Donna?
Deadheads are historically divided about Donna.  I really liked her, and many I know abhorred her.

Yeah, I fell in the latter camp, mainly due to her jungle-queen wailing on Playin' In The Band. Sounded like the Jane part in Guitarzan. But I knew some folks who loved her, too. C'est la vie.

"I guess we're all one phone call from our knees", that was me.   I don't love the song, but that line resonates.

So I'm trying to figure out the answer to Mike's question, and stumble across the fact that the ep you mention with the Man in Black, was one of several directed by Nicholas Colasanto, aka Coach from Cheers.  Who knew?

#6 (and he directed three of those eps)

Jack Cassidy?

Good guess - He was always in them

In fact he was a murderer 3 times, as was Robert Culp.

oops, i see you got it. #6 is #1!

and if you knew that, you must have seen who directed the first episode (televised as part of the NBC Mystery Movie series), no?

So we get Todd's Hello, It's Me as the Bonus track today--except this is from '72, on Something/Anything. A Dream Goes On Forever would have worked for '74.

it was a single in late '73, and (technically) was probably still on the Hot 100 in Jan of '74. But yeah, there were better choices.

oh yeah!  the extras on the Duel DVD mention his tenure as a TV director and I think show a few clips of his work on the Sunday Night Mystery.

Steven Bochco wrote that one as well.  And later that first year an ep was directed by Jonathan Demme.

This show was really murder on their careers!

The guys who created Columbo, Levinson & Link, were quite prolific:

Quote
William Link and Richard Levinson co-created and produced the detective television series Columbo, Mannix, Ellery Queen, Murder, She Wrote and Scene of the Crime. They also collaborated on several made-for-TV movies including My Sweet Charlie (interracial love), That Certain Summer (Hal Holbrook and Martin Sheen as gay lovers --in 1974!), The Judge and Jake Wyler, The Execution of Private Slovik, Charlie Cobb: A Nice Night for a Hanging, and Blacke's Magic, which was also developed into a short-lived TV series

Yes.  the other one is Barbara Colby (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0170346/)...not so famous, but she was the murder victim (by Jack Cassidy!) on that first ep that Spielberg directed & Bochco wrote.  Which is where I stumbled upon it.

Spock was also a murderer (one of the few that Columbo actually got mad at), and Chekov was in an ep, but neither killer nor killed.

I remember her saying the Robert Palmer three-fer blew everything else away in the BOS voting--even the GD tune, which surprises me. Not sure why they didn't note it in the setlists. Blame the intern, sez I.

nah, I only thought the Feldman quote was incrementally, not exponentially, better than the average.

I love this kind of humor.

BTW, Mark, are you going to separate the Shraytabase into Dave and Annalisa eras, or run it all together?

My BOS went to J. Geils, although they apparently actually titled it - and the grammarian in me hates them for it - "Must Of Got Lost."

It's only matter of a minute and a half to create tabs for combined, Dave only & Annalisa only Db's.  In fact I was thinking about the Db exactly when you posted that, considering that I need a tab for the total Db, inclusive of duplicate classics, for the historical record, and also one with all the dupes removed, for statistical analysis.

personally, I'd just add a field to the records where it was either DM or AL or whatever, and that way we could easily do comparisons.  We could choose to include, exclude, or mix DM/AL sets for specific songs, etc.
