I wasn't paying attention to the intro; is this a classic?  I'm assuming Dwight Twilley is on the slate.

Teenage had a race for the night time
Spent my cash on every high i could find
Wasted time in every school in l.a.
Getting loose, i didn't care what the kids say

We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad moved to hollywood
Hang myself when i get enough rope
Can't clean up, though i know i should
White punks on dope
White punks on dope

Other dudes are living in the ghetto
But born in pacific heights don't seem much betto

We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad live in hollywood
Hang myself when i get enough rope
I can't clean up, though i know i should
White punks on dope
White punks on dope

I go crazy 'cause my folks are so fucking rich
Have to score when i get that rich white punk itch
Sounds real classy, living in a chateau
So lonely, all the other kids will never know

We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad live in hollywood
Hang myself when i get enough rope
Can't clean up, though i know i should
White punks on dope

It's a great one.  I was thinking of it the other day when my daughter and I heard "Tempted" on the radio.  I explained that it was Squeeze's biggest hit,  but wasn't even sung by a member of the band.  I guess he was official, but only for that album, perhaps.  Anyway, I heard "How Long" in my head for some time.  I always associate this song with Player's "Baby Come Back" since they came out around the same time, and they're both in the one-hit-wonder category, as far as I know.

It debuted in primetime in 1969, so it's definitely PG.  The second vignette in Ep 1 featured Flip Wilson as a pool hustler who gets hustled.

I have always made the same connection as well.  Anyone else?

Both self-pitying pub rock, so the connection's certainly there.  But Player wasn't a OHW - they made #10 with their forgotten follow-up, "This Time I'm in It for Love."

And I want to say the Player song came out at least two years later--I associate it with my second semester in college, which would make it late 77 or early 78. Alas, my copy of Whitburn is still in a box somewhere.

Playing quick catchup on the posts here, I thought it was Joe Frank who spent a night at your house last month. :)

"Golden Years" is a great song, but it's actually my least favorite from Station to Station - which should tell you how much I adore that album.

I'm gonna have to get that then, as GY is just about my favorite Bowie tune.

I always associate "Baby Come Back" with the H&O song it rips off.

I was 5 when "Baby Come Back" came out.  My father, a hardcore alkie, used to take me along to one of his favorite bars, a place called the Thunderbird.  He'd order me Shirley Temples and give me coins to play the games there (I remember they had one of those sawdust-covered shuffleboard games shaped like a pinball machine), and the two songs I'd hear there without fail were "Baby Come Back" and "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue."

Well, fine.  I was only 11 in 75, so I probably didn't notice it then.  Musta still been big on the radio in the later 70s.

Dave, you're absolutely right. That WAS a good set.

1.)  Ian Hunter - Once Bitten, Twice Shy
2.)  Led Zeppelin - Boogie With Stu
3.)  Pilot - Magic
4.)  Queen - Killer Queen
5.)  Tubes - White Punks On Dope
6.)  10cc - Blackmail
7.)  Ace - How Long
8.)  ABBA - S.O.S.
9.)  Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Fallin' In Love
10.)  David Bowie - Golden Years

pop quiz - including this set, how many times do you think each tune has appeared in the 59 sets from 1975 in my Db?  None is a bustout, and only one is officially a Katrina (i.e. in over 20% of the sets.)

I was there Sat nite (I didn't realize the Islanders were the worst team in the NHL) for another fab victory. That was supposed to be my last game, but I just added Sat March 14 (LA Kings).  Hard to pass up a team that never loses. And I keep finding good restaurants in downtown SJ.

I have the Sat Mar 14 game too. Want to meet for dinner? I should get you down to the pregame skate which for a 7pm game means being down at the glass by about 6:15.

eta: I thought the Islanders were #3 in the NHL. No?

Islanders are dead last; Rangers are #5, tho'.  If you want dinner AND pre-game skate, we'd have to meet by 5, I guess.

That's about what my expectation was as well, but in fact the numbers are mostly quite different (you did hit Abba spot on tho').

Ace is the big Katrina at 14, with 10cc at 10 & Ian Hunter (!) at 9.  All others are between 2 & 5 appearances.  ABBA and Pilot (!) at 5, Zep with 4, Tubes and Queen (!) at 3, with H, JF & R and Bowie (!) at 2.

wow, that's amazing. Of course, our perceptions are colored by regular KFOG airplay, and gawd knows the Queen tune is one of their most-overplayed regular-rotation "classics" over the last 5 years or so (up there with "Rocket man" and "Sweet Home Ala-bummer"). But that it has only been in 3 '75 sets is stunning.

great set, but I would've jettisoned Boogie w Stu. That song annoys me sorta like Happy Go Lucky annoys Mike.
