Dave's taking suggestions.

I called in a vote for my favorite Turkey.

I called in a vote for my favorite Turkey.
Is it one we've heard before, or a Turkey bustout?
I e-mailed him my choice--we'll see if it makes it.

And I made my annual "Tarzan Boy" request; he played it 2 years go, but not last year.

I'll just assume we'll get "Hocus Pocus."

I'll just assume we'll get "Hocus Pocus."
Just checked the Db, and the last 5 - I mean 6 - sets (2002-7) are all in there. Only one song has appeared all 5 times, and no others more than thrice. Can you guess the 5-timer? (hint: it's not "Hocus Pocus"). ((I can't count, 2002-7 = six years, not five))

I requested "Safety Dance" which appeared in 2002, but not since. Dave said, "You got it!" so I hope he wasn't leading me on.

That "Ma-na na na" song that I despise?

Surprisingly not. I had assumed as much, which was why I was double-checking the Db in the first place. "Mah-Na-Mah-Na" actually hasn't made the cut for two years running.

Which is why we're likely to hear it tomorrow.
Is the 5-timer Jungle Fever? (And, no I didn't look at the DB before I posted that.)
ETA: But now I have. And I see that I am grossly wrong. (Don't know why I thought Jungle Fever was a frequent turkey. It's most certainly not.) But I'll shut up now until someone gets the correct answer.
-
I'm guessing "Rico Suave."
-
I'm guessing "Rico Suave."
Dave doesn't consider that a Turkey -- he considers it a Masterpiece of Erotica.
It's never been in the Turkey line-up afaik -- or in Hits From Hell, for that matter (where it clearly belongs). He's played that Clarence "Frogman" Henry song a couple times, tho'.
-
I'm guessing "Rico Suave."
Please, God, no...
-
Tubthumping?
-

Mike gets a Tarzan-worthy shout-out! Who-oh-OH!
-
Dave's taking suggestions.
Dave's taking YOUR suggestion!!!
-
And RGMike gets the TOTHC!! Tarzan Boy goes from Stuffing to Roast Turkey!
-
Mike gets a Tarzan-worthy shout-out! Who-oh-OH!
NTM, who sings it?
-
and seriously, even if it wasn't our Mike, I'd give this a solid BOS. This is what Turkeys are all about.
-
listen to those 80s drums! bew-bew-boop-boop!
-
Mike gets a Tarzan-worthy shout-out! Who-oh-OH!

it's the first on the Turkey Stuffing list on the previous page of posts.

it was I. And this sounds like a 12"" version too. And indeed it is the epitome of Turkeyness.

Speaking of turkeys ...

-
Two songs in, and we've got our second promotion from stuffing to roast.
Papa-oom-ma-maow-maow!
-
I would have rather heard Pee-wee Herman's "Bird's the Word."
And "Double Barrel" is NOT a turkey!!! It's a W-O-O-O!!!
-
Here's my request--I AM THE MAGNIFICENT!!!

I apologize for invoking the spirit of Gerardo earlier. Speak Ts'ao Ts'ao's name, and Ts'ao Ts'ao will appear.

I'm guessing "Rico Suave."
This is actually a Turkey bustout (or should we call it a baste-out?) ;)
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrico Ssssssssssssssssssuave!

Dave loves us, but has a S&M streak.

truly hellish. There's a *great* latino rap hit, "Mentirosa" by Mellow Man Ace, but Dave's nwver played it.
-
Here's my request--I AM THE MAGNIFICENT!!!
Nice. Kudos.
Say what you will about Gerardo, but 4 songs in and we've already had 2 baste-outs & 2 previous one-timers. And the promised Ray Stevens Lifetime Turkey Achievement award medley will also be a baste-out.
-
"Gimme Dat Ding" is appropriate for the set.
-

dat's right, dat's right!

baste-out
Very well played.

Actually, I find the Pipkins far more hellish than Gerardo.

I think this song clearly shows that Dave is a true professional.

the ghost of Benny Hill will haunt you the rest of your days.
BOS Ray Stevens megamix!
-
And the Ray-fest begins with Casey Kasem's least favorite song.
-
....wait, people from Turkey are Turks, not Arabs, right? I'm so confused.
-
And the Ray-fest begins with Casey Kasem's least favorite song.
LOL! "and a bone in her nose, ho-ho!" -- uh, Ray, you're confusing Arabs and Africans.

Err, I make it three previous one timers (Tarzan Boy, Surfin Bird, Double Barrel) and one baste-out (Rico) up to that point. Pipkins and Ray Stevens megamix make it four and two.
-
wow... there's a reason "Bridget the Midget" never gets played on the radio.
-
Fun stuff-(ing):

-
wow... there's a reason "Bridget the Midget" never gets played on the radio.
And I haven't heard Along Came Jones in years. Or his cover of Misty, which was kinda charming back in the day.
Have we heard Guitarzan yet?
-
I forgot that the Henhouse Four Plus Two would be (a fitting) part of this.
-
Please let this finish with "I Need Your Help, Barry Manilow."
there ya go! A great parody, truly.

I have the 45 -- he didn't write it, but he sure sells it. Just missed the Top 40 back at the height of manilow-mania. Very clever.
-
Er, Let's hear it for JANE (http://purgatoryisacat.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html#1461535131002603413)!
-
Have we heard Guitarzan yet?
Bay-BAY!
Sounds like we're getting Guitarzan in its entirety to finish the megamix.
Shut up baby, I'm tryin' ta sing!
(I always thought Jane sounded kinda like Donna Jean Godchaux singing Playin' in the Band when she was in the Dead. Sorry, Geoff!)
-
I thought ther music matter -- but does it bollocks!
BOS3 (after Baltimora and the Stevens medley) Chumbawumba -- one of the GREAT pop singles of the '90s IMHO.
DAMN! lost the stream!
-
My stream got knocked down! Will it get up again? >:(
-
And now the stream has died--right in the middle of Tubthumping!
It appears to be unanimous--the stream has taken a crap!
-
Wazzamattayou? Ah, Shadupa youface
-
My stream got knocked down! Will it get up again? >:(
I need a whiskey drink and a lager drink.
-
Wazzamattaforyou?
does that mean we're missing "Shaddap You face"?

I'm going down to my car to listen.

Def worth taping this one tonite, for the Stevens medley alone.

Seems like this happens a lot when there's a popular set (i.e. Halloween, or the set on the day DM announced his retirement). I suspect it's a traffic issue.
-
Now its Mah Na Mah Na
-
Wazzamattayou?
does that mean we're missing "Shaddap You face"?
Si Si Si
Sigh Sigh Sigh
(we should finish this set with "Say Say Say")
-
Now Blue Swede "Hooked On A Feeling"

I tried relaunching the player, to see if that made a difference. It didn't.

Now Blue Suede "Hooked On A Feeling"
ooga-chukka, ooga ooga. Best. Turkeys. Set. EVAH.

Now Blue Swede "Hooked On A Feeling"
So this is tne end of the set, yes? At least I got to hear the Ray Stevens medley.
Ah, the stream came back in time for the backsell.
-
Ha, my stream came back in mid-recap. Thanks a lot, tech! ::)
-
Thats it, roll tape tonight. Happy Turkey Day, ffffffolks!
-
Good eatin' tomorrow, gang, and may we all have much to be thankful for!

I am thankful for youtube -- Focus on this one...

Stream appears to have crapped again, so not sure if I'll hear the bonus turkey or not, too.

I got it back just now. Hoping maybe Annalisa will allow for "Safety Dance" as the bonus.
Fwiw, among the many things I'm thankful for is the fact that it's raining. Droughts are no fun.
-
Damn! It coulda been me that one the Bonus quiz, I was the first caller, but I didn't know the answer. Question is, "What do we commonly know "Man Na Mah Na" from?" But all I could come up with was Sweden Heaven & Hell.
ETA: That's what I get for never watching the Muppet Show.
But OMG, although the Foghead chose Frank & Moon Unit, Annalisa offered the choice of Freuer's "Doot Doot". Now I really hate myself.

Dude, that is TOTALLY unfair! I'd've said SH&H too -- I remember seeing the Muppets on Ed Sullivan several years after the movie came out, doing a routine to "Mah nah mah na" and thinking "do they KNOW this is from an X-rated movie??"

don't punish your self, mshray. You can never truly predict how the wily Annalisa will be thinking about any given subject.
-
too too obvious for Dave's set, but here it is on WLNG: Little Eva's "Let's Turkey Trot", a goofy Goffin/King comp that I've become quite fond of. Gobble-gobble-diddle-it!

Well, when Annalisa asked the question, she made it clear that the movie -- which she mentioned by name -- was NOT what she was going for. Something like "what english speaking source (show?) made it popular after the movie?"

TANC: there's a thread over on the NY Radio Message Board about when & where to hear "Alice's Restaurant" on NY radio this year. Someone recounted a story about when he was a music director at a station back in 1980 and they played it. Next day the station manager called him in to complain about "that song with some young guy going on and on about the woes of the world", and whatthehell was it, and we pay you as a Music Director to keep stuff like that from happening, etc.
So another poster replied: "Was that the same station manager who said 'with god as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly'?"
-

Yeah, I know. I was still listening on the stream, and when she started talking about "Mah Na Mah Na" I dialed the KFOG number & she picked up on the 2nd ring...but I wasn't thinking about the delay. So I was hearing her asking the question on the stream and simultaneously hearing her on the phone asking if I had the answer. Annalisa still gave me every chance to answer, but, although in the back of my brain I might have had it, there was no way the gears were grinding in the right direction to pull it out. Not her fault at all.

Manna Manna?!?!? This may go down as one of the worst intern typos ever!

ray stevens + laugh track = genius!!
-
Can anyone name all the components of the Ray Stevens Megamedley? I don't think I've ever heard the one between Ahab the Arab and Bridget the Midget. (And Dave left out Everything Is Beautiful, which he certainly could have included since he did play Misty.)
-
Well, we're at the point in the replay where the stream took a sh*t this morning. Hoping history does not repeat. I'd kinda like to hear the rest of it.
ETA: SUCCESS!
-
With my post here, we tie for the second busiest KFOG 10@10 thread ever, topped only by Election Day. (I'm sure the Yahoo/old board days never saw 100+ posts.) Congrats! Good times.
-

not in order, bit I either heard or someone here named these:
Ahab the Arab
In the Mood (chickens clucking)
Bridget the Midget
The Streak
Gitarzan
I Need Your Help Barry Manilow

Those were all there, and the one Urth is thinking of was "Harry the Hairy Ape" (which has basically the same melody as "Ahab"). I think Dave considers "Misty" a novelty -- he also omitted my personal fave "serious" Stevens hit, "Mr Businessman".

I just noticed that weird misspelling now. (it's "Mah-Nah-Mah-Nah" afaik)

oh boy, I loves me some Surfin' Bird!
watching the Niners, who haven't blown it...yet.
ad for Family Guy says the dad character can't get enough turkey, and he starts singing Surfin' Bird!
